Default Removing all of the OZ IM's

Please Login to Remove!

Is there a way to have the BES Server remove all the IM's off the newer blackberries? Maybe with Software Configuration?

We are using Tmobile and it has the OZ group of IM's such as Yahoo, MSN, AIM, and ICQ i think? or these from RIM?

Management doesn't want them being used for whatever reason.

I've been searching around....but all i find is people wanting to add them! :D

You can only remove software that you have pushed through a software configuration. RIM only produces IM software for Exchange/Domino/GroupWise, I don't believe they make one for Yahoo/MSN/AIM/ICQ though. That sounds third party to me. You can however black all software from being installed on the HH except those you want to allow, it's called a Whitelist software configuration. Search the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center for Whitelist and you should find it. Even if you disable the downloading of third party apps they can be downloaded and installed via Desktop Manager.

The Whitelist is your best option to lock down the installtion of unwanted apps.

I hope this helps.

Well Gibson makes a good point. What we do is as soon as we receive a new device, we nuke it reload it with the OS configured with the Software Config. We check the apps we want on it including third party.

This way its easier and you know what your devices have without looking at the BES Manager for each device.

What you control for your user's to download is a different story.

Blocking is not a problem....and users aren't allowed to use the Desktop Software. We had to many people messing up their berries and so we had to restrict the usage of it.

These IM's are all preinstalled from TMobile on the 8100 on up to the new 8320's. They got their own subfolder called Instant Messaging on the application screen with Yahoo!, AOL, ICQ, BB Messenger in it.

Going to the options > advanced > applications

they all show RIM as vendor.

AIM - RIM -
net_rim_bb_qm_aim

Yahoo - RIM -
net_rim_bb_qm_lib
net_rim_yahoo_messenger
net_rim_bb_gm_yahoo_resources_en
net_rim_bb_gm_yahoo_resources_es

ICQ - RIM
net_rim_bb_qm_icq

Windows Live Messenger - RIM
net_rim_bb_qm_msn
net_rim_bb_qm_msn_resources_en

With knowing the file names...wouldn't there be a way to uninstall these without having to manually delete them from from every device?

You could simply block use of them with IT Policy, or if you install the application into the Software Configuration repository you should be able to set the disposition on them to be dis-allowed.
