Yes, it recognizes it as attached, and sees it as a modem. I actually tried using your script as it's modem script but no dice.

The computer clearly recognizes the device, and tries to dial it. Always some error though, because no correct script has been written.

Exclamation I've tried everything!

Ok, so I have done all the steps with no hiccups several times now...

The internet connect app goes through connecting to PPP, authenticating user, followed immediately by disconnecting, then gives me the error that it couldnt establish a connection with the PPP server.

Not sure what this means... I do only have a GPRS signal in the house instead of EDGE, does that make a difference?

Should work with either GPRS or EDGE. Is your signal particularly weak? Do you have a username and password entered in Internet Connect?

It's weird, its like it's not even trying it goes through the steps so fast...

Okay, I seem to be having the same problem with the automatic disconnecting. It connects for about 40 seconds, then disconnects. Then the "connection was terminated because the other side is not responding" message pops up.

The whole time, there are no (zero) bars next to send and receive!

I'm on T-Mobile using the BlackBerry Internet & E-mail plan. And I'm using a MacBook Pro.

So, any solutions?

Hey guys, I have a problem, I am new to MACS and I am trying to make the tethering thing work because i have a few long stays in the hospital with no wireless.... SO! When I open up the library modem scripts how do I copy in the scripts how do I do that? when I click on any of the files in there it says something about how there is no application to open it. How do I go about putting the script in there? I appreciate the help guys, sorry if it's a dumb question...

You don't edit an existing script. You actually move the whole txt file into the Modem Scripts folder.

Let me know how it works for you. I'm having trouble keeping on the connection. Good luck.

To those having disconnection issues: check that you have a username and password entered in the appropriate fields in Internet Connect (guest for both should work) and that the phone number is set to wap.voicestream.com. In addition I've gotten conflicting reports about whether you need to have an APN set up on your Pearl - if you haven't already, go to Options -> Advanced Options -> TCP and specify an APN of wap.voicestream.com. On mine I have a username of wap and no password, but I don't believe those fields are used.

check but it still disconnects at 41 seconds

Thanks HSE! I figured out how to get the file into the modem scripts but on my desktop when i dragged it in there it had the .txt extension. Afterwards I went into the folder and deleted the .txt extension because I thought someone in here said I needed to do that... so I did. I also have all my settings set as they were laid out in the guide. Once I hit connect in the internet connect it says "connecting to PPP server" or something like that and then immediately says disconnecting. This is using a 15 inch mac book pro and I have to admit after using a PC for ten years its taking me some time to get used to Macs but I swear I did everything just like you guys said! lol Anyone have any input?

Sun Oct 1 18:46:47 2006 : Using interface ppp0
Sun Oct 1 18:46:47 2006 : Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem
Sun Oct 1 18:46:48 2006 : Remote message: guest
Sun Oct 1 18:46:48 2006 : PAP authentication succeeded
Sun Oct 1 18:46:49 2006 : LCP terminated by peer
Sun Oct 1 18:46:52 2006 : Connection terminated.
Sun Oct 1 18:46:57 2006 : Serial link disconnected.

It disconnects right at the LCP stage. The whole process takes about 13 seconds. Man I wish an Intel guru could get this working...

Seems doubtful that Intel Macs would handle this stuff differently than G4-based Macs, but I suppose it's possible.
What's odd to me is that the connection terminates where it does - once you've successfully authenticated, the Mac PPP stack takes over and the script exits. So for you to get an LCP termination message, you have to be able to successfuly send data over the link!

Since you're already looking at the log, here's what you can do to get more debug output (please be comfortable with UNIX terminal commands before even thinking about attempting this, and don't do it if you've set up other ppp options!): in Terminal, execute the following:

sudo echo 'debug' > /etc/ppp/options

You'll be asked to type the password you use to log into your Mac. Afterward, try to connect again. You should see extra logging between PAP auth and LCP termination. Again, don't try this unless you're sure you know what you're doing, as mucking about with sudo can seriously hose your mac.

One further note - those whose connections are terminating after less than 10-15 seconds I can probably help, but anything longer than that is most likely a signal strength or interference issue. Still, I'll help if I can.

I dont know why but its giving me the Permission Denied response, the user I am logged on to is an Admin..

I remember doing something in terminal before and having to type a password but here it doesnt ask for one, just Permission denied..

Forgive my lack of terminal skills.. still new to macs...

Ok, here's what I just did... and it WORKS!

I took out the **9**/9 or whatever that string is.. and put in wap.voicestream.com in the phone number field, and success!!

I dont know how many times I read all the instructions and still ended up trying to put in *99***1# in the phone number field in Internet Connect, looking back on the past few days I feel mighty silly now

It's weird that you can look at something over and over thinking it's right when it's glaringly wrong...

Thanks to everyone for your help! Man I feel like such a noob...

Ah, but think of the service you've just done me and the BBF community - now anyone who has the same problem can search and find the answer! Thanks for posting what the problem was.

same problem, except some bars jump around on send and receive but still no go on the connection...

it authenticates and all that stuff, sits for about a minute with some bars jumping and then disconnects for the same reason as above...

any ideas?

i have 3 bars of EDGE signal...
