Default 8703 on Verizon/Sprint use Intel or Qualcomm chipset?

Please Login to Remove!

Will the upcoming 8703 use the Qualcomm or Intel chipset? I have been very impressed with the speed of the device using the Intel chips on the 8700c...:bb:

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I think all of the 8700 series will use the Intel chips.

The 8707 is CDMA, but the Qualcomm part is just the radio. The device has an Intel processor.

Agreed. The FCC pdf documents have no test data for GSM frequencies, only CDMA.

All 8700 series devices use Intel processors, but CDMA units require Qualcomm radios in order to function.

I have been testing a Verizon 8703 and the rep said it does have the Intel processor. However, I have noticed in Brickbreaker and other functions that the action is not as smooth as with my 8700c. Also, it suck down a battery faster than a 7520.

For the earlier post, the device is only CDMA....no GSM.

How is this even possible. Nextel phones are almost CONSTANTLY sending and receiving radio signals from the tower (as compared to other carriers). How is it possible that ANYTHING be draining a battery faster than an Iden phone???

I need to make sure that this will last a full 24 hours with 100 email and 1 to 2 hours of talk. Can anyone compare the speed/battery life to the 7130e or the 7250?

Questionable battery life: one more reason to wait for a nice person (guinea pig) on this site to do a comprehensive review before I purchase it

My RIM contact has told me that the guts of the 8703e are the same as the 7130e. I would expect the battery consumption to be similar in both models.

The screen is one of if not THE major power consumer. 8703 uses a larger screen then the 7130 which leads me to believe it consumes more power.

I know it is not comparing apples to apples (CDMA vs GSM) but my 8700c has better battery life then my 7130e.

I have a great example for the battery life. I had the device charging via the USB cable at my desk until I left work yesterday arount 4pm. When I left, the battery was at 96%. I played about 45 minutes worth of Brickbreaker, had 3 phone calls lasting a total of 55 minutes and received about 2 dozen e-mails. This morning at 6:15am, the battery was at 5% and the radio was turned off.
