Exclamation I'm so close to the 'EDGE' with this phone

Please Login to Remove!

So, literally i'm close to the EDGE with this phone. My brand new javelin got stolen, so i decided to replace it albeit with a used one. It turns out to be O2 branded. I have just spent the past 3 hours on the internet looking for how to make it work.

Symptom(s)- My sim card is BIS activated, with 'EDGE' in caps, but each time i re-install a new OS, during the set-up wizard there's just one option; "I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server".
I have JL Commanded it, (i.e wiped and reset-to-factory), it now has no Firewall or IT Policy, still the browser won't show, neither does the email set up icon, despite my sim card being BIS active. Each time i install a new OS, i get 2 emails instantaneously, one from Blackberry which says "Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network", and another one from O2 which says "welcome to your very own blackberry blah blah blah".
I have checked the Options>Advanced Options>Sim Card, using the mepd thingy, it shows that the phone has been unlocked, but yet O2 won't stop sending the emails each time i completely nuke and re-install OS on the phone.

Another thing is, when i restored my back up, all the service book entries came up, the BBIM, BBFS et al, but still, no browser icon and no email set up icon.

Help Needed Urgently, as i dont think i can take anymore of this frustration.

A few questions.
Do you have a valid Blackberry Data plan with O2? Not a cell data plan.

you say the SIM is BIS active. why do you say this? Was the SIM in another type of phone.

does the OS load complete?

The blackberry's PIN is still registered with an O2 BIS account, hence the emails from O2.

Yup, you have bought a used blackberry and the previous owner didn't clear their BIS account before selling.
