I successfully tethered my 9700 via USB last night... The key was getting BDM for Mac... of course, I stumble on this thread AFTER struggling for a few days! ;) lol (the key for me was getting BDM... was trying without it before.... had the BB modem file (the old one with 8100/8700/8800)... could get BT tethering to work without BDM... but not USB... now with BDM installs... works great via USB!!!

i did notice though, that either have BDM running, and/or having the SD card mounted while trying to USB tethered, would results in crashing my 9700 a few seconds after successfully connecting... so keeping mass storage OFF and also setting BDM to not start automatically when hooking up my BB did the trick...

I'm glad I didn't have to spend $20 just to tether... this is why macs rock (and T-mobile too! - they don't lock down their devices like some other providers *cough* verizon *cough* seem to do... :p )

Thumbs up Works with 8900 on TMO USA

I can confirm that this works on T-Mobile USA with my 8900. Running OS X 10.5.8. Seems snappier than the bluetooth connection. Will try in on Snow Leopard later today.

Many Thanks !

I tried to reinstall but what I just read was that the newer version of Tetherberry does not work side by side with DM and you would need to uninstall DM in order to work this using a cable.

UGH!

Any suggestions?

I hope there working on a fix for this.

Well that depends on your carrier...for verizon, you do or you have to pay tethering monthly charges.

Is anyone that is trying to tether with ATT paying the extra 30$ to do it? I don’t want to pay, and want to try these techniques. Will they work? Some people have said they call ATT support to get help, so I am assuming that THEY pay right? Is there a way to do it without paying.

Actually connected VIA bluetooth and tetherberry today and it seems to work great. Hopefully Tether will put an update out soon that will allow USB and DM to run at the same time but for now at least this seems to be working.

Default Modem Scripts

Here is the site fibble.org/archives/2007/10/updated-modem-s.html#comment-128305 with the modem scripts. It explains every fairly clearly. Or at least clear enough for me to get things working.

No Luck. If there is anyone who has got a similar combo of OSX and Bold working, I'd be eternally grateful. This is the one thing that is preventing me from dumping my PC for a MAC. (Tried this on wife's mac who doesnt tether).
tried all the same and no joy.

OK figured it out, after trying all the various recommended settings here for those of us without tether plans.

I checked all the settings on the BB handset in Options>TCP/IP. I then copied those over into the network settings on my Mac. Presto.

telephone number: *99***2# (also worked with *99***1#)
username: WAP(AT)CINGULARGPRS.COM (won't let me post email address yet)
password: CINGULAR1

then in the advanced screen
APN: wap.cingular

used both the Sierra and RIM modem selections, and the RIM setting seemed every so slightly faster according to speedtest.net. That said, the differences aren't out of the range of uncertainty so I wouldn't go so far as to categorically say one is faster than the other.

It seems as though the key to getting this to work properly is ensuring that the info in (Mac) System Preferences>Network>RIM connected device are the same as those in (BB) Options>TCP/IP.
