Please forgive the question. I searched and could not find an answer.

I just got the 8900 and am coming from a Pearl. Should I dump the Blackberry Desktop software and reinstall for the 8900? Or, am I OK trying to sync the 8900 with the currently installed software?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

You can use DM that you currently have installed.

You can upgrade to a newer version if you'd like, but it's not necessary.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

The process should be seamless. As a backup I sync all my PIM info with outlook.

Thanks guys. The 1st sync went well. Just wanted to make sure the DM was compatible and that I wouldn't turn the 8900 in to a brick in the 1st hour of ownership.

I just went from a Pearl 8100 to the Curve 8900....Awesome upgrade.

I started from scratch with the newest DM....I really like it. The software handled the device switch flawlessly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I frequently am, but don't you need the latest DM to install software upgrades? I am very happy with .114....but the day will come.

Enjoy the 8900....I am really loving the full keyboard and spell check....

It is recommended that you use the newest official DM version when upgrading your OS, especially on a newer device such as the 8900.

Note: If you are planning to sync with Outlook 2000 the newest version of DM you will need to use DM 4.2 SP2/SP3.
