Please Login to Remove!
Call cingular's data support line and tell them you want to add access to WAP.Cingular Access point, they may say that the bb plan comes with wap access and all blackberry service uses the blackberry.net APN, tell them ok well I need you to change my current plan, tell them to remove the line
XM with BB and V UN
and to add the following lines:
BB UNL Retail $0.00

They will tell you to then complete a hard reset wich means to remove that batery from your BB and then re insert! you should then hang up! ofcourse thank them for there help if you are polite like myself ( I told them before I hung up to leave notes in my account incase there were a problem so that it could be fixed; such as "ober" charges) well its aprox 1 month later received new bill and no ugly overage charges) "cingular fit's me best!!!"
go to options and then TCP
Enter
APN: wap.cingular <Lower cas---X
USER NAME: WAP@CINGULAR <ALL CAPS---X
Password: CINGULAR1 <ALL CAPS---X
Complete a hard reset (intructions above)
now you have TCP Access to use your favorate apps such as RAMBLE or VERACHAT.
Make sure in your applications that you disable the use of MDS (Mobile data services) typically used by corperate BB access in which you would not need TCP access.
If for some off the wall reason that you still cannot access you apps, check to see if in your BB Servic ebook that you have the following:
Cingular Wap Secure Transport (WAP)
Cingular Browser (Browser Config)
Provisioning
BB Browser
Desktop(CICAL)
Desktop(CMIME)
You do not need to pay extra!!!
and "that was easy!" now feel free to shop at Staples and use you BB while you shop!

tunnel failed, tunnel failed, tunnel failed...
I have a BB 7290 w/ Cingular unlimited data plan and have switched the WAP access point and have switched the WAP settings in options/TCP and am met with continued failure in my attempts to use my Reqwireless browser with no BES, and I also have the HelloWorld Google Maps browser, neither of which are working!!!! I must take a break or go mad...can anyone suggest anything? One thought: I'm out of my home area...will that make a difference?
Please write or reply...thanks much Aaron Worley

still failing...HELP!!
OK, I called data support and had them look at my rate plan and tried to differentiate between "XM with BB and V UN" and "BB Unl Retail" and "BB Unl Add-On", and the guy said that nothing even exists like these latter two, only one version of unlimited Blackberry data exists...of course, I'm still having tunnel failure. I'm roaming out here in North Dakota on Cellular One's network, but the Cingular Browser that's included with the unit works fine, the WAP one...what in the **** is going on here? Thanks, Aaron Worley

I'd try at least 3 times before giving up. Maybe they need to remove your current plan before they can see the other one???

I will try to see if they have a rate code that I can give you directly, That way you could give them that code and not have them search for one maybe the person you are dealing with is not up to par on the system. Alow me a few days, I am a district manager in retail so you could only imagine the amount of free time I have.

"roming"
This one may have a difference, you are "roming" and you may not get access to TCP using another carieres network, I do know that TCP is a network protocol and if you are not on the network you don't have access to it. Cellular service is routed when you are roaming but as far as I know TCP should be routed aswel, but beeing that Cellular is typically used for voice, the data side you may loose when roming. Try this when you get back in Cingular service area and you should be fine.

Thanks
Thanks for your efforts...I've called them again three times and every time the customer service men/women insist that there are only two unlimited data plans available for Blackberry, and the ones I'm referring to do not exist at all...I've even told them I wanted to use my Blackberry as a "modem", which they insist is not possible. Disheartened? yes...hopeless? NO! Not when I get on here and read the wonderful success stories. Seems to me that, even if I'm out of my home area, they would be able to re-configure my rate plan to make TCP possible, so that when I get back to Nashville, I'd be good to go, but no one, absolutely no one, knows what the heck I'm talking about. Oh, and yes, every time I call I ask for Lucy Patton, and of course she is either not in that building or can't otherwise be found after a search is conducted. Does anyone know how I might be able to contact this woman directly, or have any other ideas I might be able to try! Thanks for your help, Aaron Worley

Incredible
Hello again: just drove from Bismarck, North Dakota to Ruidoso, New Mexico and hadn't even tried the thing...just for the halibut I clicked on HelloWorld and the thing WORKS!! Must've had something to do with the roaming...alas, my Reqwireless Browser still reads "WAP Settings Failure" or some such nonsense; who cares? I'm still so excited over this latest victory...ah, it is so sweet, is it not?? Thanks again BB brothers and sisters, Aaron Worley

Face it, Cingular is just aweful. I would avoid getting balckberry service with Cingular. I have a 7290 with the unlimited blackberry plan. Initially, everything worked, but I was overcharged by $350. I corrected the billing problem and lost all functionality. I've spent hours and hours on the phone and can not solve the problem.
Here is the situation: With the basic BB unlimited plan, Cingular controls the flow of data by running everything through the WAP gateway. As a result, third party apps do not work. The only way to get thrid-party apps to work is have a couple service codes added to your account that open up the connection. The standard BB and services without BES do not need these codes to work. The codes are only needed for thrid-party apps which Cingular does not support which is why it is so difficult to get someone to add them to the account.
If you are within the first 30 days, return your BB and go to another carrier. Most other carriers have opened this stuff up. I'm stuck with Cingular because my company requires me to use them. If I had a choice, I would switch in 2 second. There is no way Cingular will ever maintain market leader with their current attitude.
Cheers,
Karl

FIGURED IT OUT! WAP Access is included in BB Unlim Plan! - Cingular
I called Cingular Blackberry support at 866.490.2666 and talked to Migual. He couldn't help me. Said they didn't do 3rd party software support. Asked for Lucy Patton. Said she didn't work there...

Hello, just want to report that here is what I what I did to get it to work on my 8700c with Cingular.
The plan I have is ONLY the BB Unlimited (plus voice but that part should matter).
I used the settings stated in a lot of the posts:
APN: wap.cingular
User:
Pass: CINGULAR1
Called 866-490-2666
Told the representative that I have a weather program software that was trying to access the internet to get the weather forecast (the program is BBtoday).
I told them that it wasn't working and that I think it has to do with my APN settings. I told him what I had put in and then asked him to verify that he had my account configured to use wap.cingular.
He said that on his end it wasn't configured and that all he had to do was put it into the computer. A minute later it was working, didn't even have to reboot.
So I think it's a matter of calling the above number and asking them to make sure wap.cingular is on your account.

A majority of CSRs seem to be briandead on this issue. It's horrendous that they don't activate this out of the box.

I just has a very similar experience, except I didn't even have to call customer service. I just configured the APN settings and my Idokorro Mobile SSH client just started working. Pretty nice.

The same thing just happened for me as well.
I just bought an 8700c and was annoyed this wouldn't work, so put in this info
used the settings stated in a lot of the posts:
APN: wap.cingular
User:
Pass: CINGULAR1
and ramble worked right away. I am reluctant to use it now though in fears of huge data charges. Has anybody just changed the wap settings without calling into CS, and if so have you been billed per kb?

The ballpark for Cingular just changed.
When Cingular enabled the BlackBerry Browser (you all had a new browser icon suddenly appear recently), it also suddenly became easier to use TCP/IP on Cingular Orange units without needing to telephone them.
Try the WAP.CINGULAR setting again if it didn't work for you before December 2005.

I got mine working on Cingular last week. Added the 3 line items to my account. Note, isp.cingular did not work for me, had to use wap.cingular.

so will it no longer charge per kb if it worked for me without phoning in to them? I figured it would not because we have the "cingular browser" on the phone now as well, which I figured to be the wap browser.
