Default 7.2Mbps HSDPA enabled QWERTY BlackBerry??

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone have any news on this?

When i was getting a new contract on Vodafone UK, Vodafone listed the Bold 9700 having an HSDPA radio rated for 3.6Mbps whereas both the Storm 9500 and Storm 2 9520 have a 7.2Mbps rated 3G radio.

Any ninja's out there know when there will be a 3G enabled QWERTY BB with a 7.2Mbps rated radio in it? This was one of the deciding factors when i was choosing between the two devices

I just hope they aren't telling us that it can be upgraded to 7.2 HSDPA like the former berry's of the past (i.e. 7250's cdma to 1XEV) , it would be wonderful if they can, otherwise, i can live with hsdpa 3.6

So right now only the Storm2 is capable to data speeds up to 7.2Mbps theoretical peak download then.

Bold 9700 would've been nice.

Regarding the next Storm, Bold, Curve 8900 ... Is RIM not running out of the numbering scheme to play with?? Will they just go with the names alone - I HOPE so - as their more marketable to consumers this way.

Just because the T-Mobile build is only UMTS doesn't mean all the others aren't HSDPA.

As mentioned above in a few of the posts, the devices capped at 3.6 Mbps are still utilizing HSDPA, it's just a matter of whether 3.6 is the actual limit. If what the RIM rep(s) told bzflagace at CES holds true, spec sheets for either carrier's version of the 9700 listing HSDPA would merely indicate that the device is HSDPA 3.6-compatible (like the original Bold,etc...).

I've held a 9700 and iPhone 3Gs in my hands, raced them, and had the 9700 come out on top, if that means anything.

regardless of 3.6 or 7.2, those are theoretical numbers anyways... no one EVERY gets those speeds except in a test lab....

Granted, but there was a time in, say early November, that I'd rather have Cricket than T-mobile...

Assuming your carrier doesn't impose its own caps, the speeds for umts and the various HSDPA speeds aren't completely impossible to achieve outside a lab, they are just highly unlikely since they are obtained by hogging a whole cell yourself.

As far as future use of the terms, people should try to remember that both 3.6 and 7.2 along with any dl speed faster than 384kb/s is actually a hsdpa connection.
