I am a rep, and I can confirm the former @ 100%. I dunno about the latter. The AT&T 3G focus is still on the iPhone, mostly the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 release.

That makes sense since the 2g 8900 is ready to go. Interestingly people recently posted that they got faster download speeds with EDGE (Tmob) than they did with 3g (ATT) in full service locations. Of course it was WAY faster with WiFi. IMO ATT is gambling a little by releasing a new 2g Blackberry while at the same time touting their "fastest 3g network" all over the airwaves. If word gets out that their network isn't all that fast (and there's lots of evidence of that) they may lose some biz.

There is more to 3G than connection speeds.

For instance, there is an app that I encourage all Bold customers to add to their BlackBerries that does a reverse lookup on incoming calls before they go to voicemail (ala CallerID on land lines). The reasoning being that the Bold can simultaneously maintain a call while initiating a data connection. On 2G, there's no data until the call has been missed. There's no point. You might as well just check the voicemail.

Also, you assume that T-Mobile has 2G everywhere that AT&T has 3G. They don't, at least, not in my market. In Wichita, KS (a city of nearly 500,000 people), T-Mobile drops down to 1G in many areas where AT&T 3G is available. Hell, the only reason that I'm switching TO AT&T is that there is AT&T 3G service available throughout my home (within the city limits) where there is NO T-Mobile coverage at all. I've passed the time in my service agreement by using UMA (which behaves very similar to 3G, actually), but that's not the point.

Privius Mobile Caller ID

It is a bit pricey, but most people who carry the Bold don't care. LOL... They bought a Bold.
