Default Simon, what planet are you on?

Quote:
Too bad we have to resort to underground newsgroups to get this kind of information, huh?
Please tell me what color the sky is in your world? The Outage List is NOT some kind of Underground Newsgroup.

Question

Is there a link to an official announcement from RIM on this? It would be nice to point to that for users to read rather than a thread on a forum. It just looks more official.

No, there is nothing officially posted publicly from RIM... this is the best you got, and you didn't read it here

You can always wait until that time frame that it says it'll be down and then test it and then try to explain why it's down and that you knew about it a few days ahead of time but didn't want to notify anyone because it wasn't "officially" from RIM.

Sorry, didn't mean any disrespect, guy. It was more a jab at at RIM for not posting anything publicly rather than the quality of your board. I wouldn't have linked you up if I didn't think the information was good.

Now we're getting conflicting reports on if it's happening or not. We need a few people to confirm before our, (BES Admin's) heads explode.

I just got off the phone with RIM and the fellow I spoke with said that it was not happening and that if it were, it would be posted on the front page of their site.

What am I missing. A 20 minute maintenance outage is news?

It is if you have thousands of devices across 24 time zones. Midnight Eastern is noon Monday in SE Asia. And they will notice ANY outage.

RIM as a policy does not announce downtime to the public.

This is also during RIM's maintenance time frame agreements with all the carriers, I am surprised this is such a big issue.

Because it was announced to some people and not to others.
If RIM has published maintenance windows, it would be nice to REALLY publish them. Some of us monitor our BES for SRP disconnects. It would be nice to tell us when the SRP disconnect is expected under a maintenance window. Again, not something individuals need to get involved with or care about, but if you have an enterprise operations where you monitor outages, this could be an issue.

I'm sure the on-call BES support people would prefer not to get a false alarm phone call from their help desks when they get multiple SRP disconnects.

RIM announces outages to certain partners and organizations with Tx4 and Tx5 support

BlackBerry Infrastructure Notifications

BlackBerry Infrastructure notifications proactively alert you by email of any maintenance, interruptions or outages that occur in the BlackBerry Infrastructure.

T-Support comparisons

Its another profit model for them ... information = money and if you want the information, you gotta pay the money. I can't say I disagree with it from a financial sense, but from a business-friendly sense I most certainly can't agree with it.
