It doesn't include tethering. That may not be important to some people and other people like me use it all the time.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about the phone as a modem part. I think im going to keep my plan how it is.

How well does the tethering work with your 8130? I had a couple customers ask me about it.

Do you get constant speeds or a lot of disconnects or anything like that?

The tethering works great. It's my only way of getting on the internet. The speed is very fast with Sprint EVDO. I never get disconnected. I can even connect using bluetooth. I've taken out my laptop and connected to the internet with my BB still in it's holster. Very cool.

it doesnt include tethering, and you CANT add tethering either. Some people within Sprint say this *might* (read probably not) change.

That's what I heard too. I'm happy with the regular plan I have. It cost me $39.99 per month for unlimited Blackberry data and tethering.

Default tethering

I've read on other forums that you can add tethering as a $15 option.

Don't give up on this plan without researching it first.

I may opt for it but I never talk on the phone so it may be overkill for me.

Technically is does include tethering. There is NO WAY Sprint can tell the difference between surfing on your BlackBerry browser or tethering your phone to your laptop. Data, is data, is data, and there's no way to differentiate that. It's either off or on.

This by the way is NOT using Sprint PCS Connection software (which I'll NEVER understand why anyone would use), but just using a plain Windows dial up connection via Bluetooth modem or "hard-lined" via USB.

Why can you never understand why anyone would use the Sprint connection manager? What's wrong with that?

Data, is data, is data doesn't stand true with Verizon. If you don't pay for tethering, you don't have tethering even though you have data on the Blackberry. How is that possible?

My apologies, guess I should have been more specific with the post. That all pertains to Sprint as the service provider. (Hence me mentioning the "Sprint" PCS Manager Software.) And as far using not using the connection software, I'm just one for using Windows over proprietary software whenever possible, and when it does the exact same thing. Now if it optimized to do more than what Windows will do then that's another story.

Sprint's Simply Everything Plan offers Phone as Modem feature (subject to certain restrictions) at a $15/mo premium...

I agree, Verizon has a way to lock out tethering if you don't pay for it, I still think tethering should be included with the plan.
