Unhappy Outlook 2007 - Sync problems!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey.

My 7290 syncs properly to Outlook 2003. When I installed Office 2007 on a new machine and tried to go through the BB intellisync options. It allows me to pick one of: Calendar, Addressbook, Memos, Tasks.

Basically what happens is when I mark the checkbox, another box comes up - nothing new there. I select Outlook and where the path is shown, it comes up. I click okay and it goes.

When I select another one, say Addressbook and go through the process again. It keeps telling me that this data is zero byte. I can't browse because hitting the button does nothing.

Please advise?

A.

Office 12 is in early beta stages maybe that's why?

That would be a VERY good reason.
Office 12 is not supported yet by RIM.

I uninstalled my current version of BB desktop manager software (4.108) and installed the latest version (4.11 /sp1) and now I can sync with Outlook 2007.

I was unable to sync using the previous version after upgrading to the Office 2007 beta 2 but now I can.

Perhaps it will work for you as well.

Exclamation Outlook 2007 Sync problems - more on the issue

Hi there.

I ran into the same problem and I've spent quite a bit of time trying to resolve it.

What I've done is set up a BES 4.1 environment on a server (fresh new install on fresh new Exchange 2003) and then done the following using BB Desktop software 4.1.1 (Feb 2006 version from BB website) on a 7100v running 4.1 of the handheld software.

I've connected via both USB and BlueTooth just fine, even when the sync fails.

1) Upgrade exisitng Office 2003 on a workstation to Office 12 - Sync failed
2) Start a fresh brand new Office 12 installation on a workstation - Even worse
3) Uninstalled Office 12, installed/patched Office 2003 and got THAT working ok.
4) In the process of ruining the Office 2003 environment now (the idea is that now that it's clean, working perfectly, and assuming I don't touch ANYthing, it should work).

I'll keep you posted.

Default 2 possible solutions

Outlook 2007 Sync Problem
--------------------------
I have experimented for the pass 2 days since I upgraded from Outlook 2003 to 2007 and encountered the same problem as above. Basically I think it is the problem with Intellisync Configuration because Outlook 2007 uses a different format. But there is hope.

There seem to be 2 ways, I got first way to work. The second way would take much longer time (need some programming skills), and I don't want to mess up my setup again.

First Way - Using older configuraiton (average takes about 2 hours)
----------------------------------------------------------------
After I installed 4.1 desktop and handheld, i encountered the sync problem. I removed both from my computer (using Add/Remove program in the control panel), installed a lower verison desktop Manager (for my setup I used BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.0.1.19) and then installed a lower version of of handheld firmware (for my setup I used BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.0.0.234). Then I sync with Outlook 2007 with no problem. You can find these older desktop and firmware from the blackberry download site.

The above successful sync leaves a 'good' configuration file for the intellisync to work with.

Then I install the latest Desktop Manger (for my setup I used BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.1 SP1 (Multilanguage) ). I sync it AGAIN. This is because some new files are added and the configuration file will be updated.

Then i install the latest Handheld firmware (for my setup I used BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.1.0.210 (Multilanguage) ). Then I sync it.

When all the above steps are completed. I can sync successfully with my USB/Bluetooth connections repeatively.

WARNING
---------
Do NOT press the Reset Configuration button inside the Desktop Manger->Intellisync once you cross into version 4.1 or desktop and/or firmware. This will erase the configuration file and replace with a incomptaible one with Outlook 2007.

If you want to customise your sync like mapping outlook property to certain fields in your blackberry, do it in version 4.0 so that the configuration file is intact.

Outlook 2007 incompatibility
--------------------------
Outlook 2007 adopt a new format (including more XML stuff I guess) hence some FIELDS are lost, this appears in contacts, task, calender. For example, for my contacts I kept some notes for each contact and this will NOT be sync into blackberry. In programming terms, the contact.body, task.body, calender.body has been changed. You can still see the information in Outlook 2007 but it won't be in your handheld.

METHOD 2 - Modifying the Intellisync configuration file
-----------------------------------------------------
During my research into solving the problem, seem like other users like Dopod etc also encoutner our problem. Your configuration file can be seen by first showing 'invisible' file then go to My Computer->Document and Setting->Users->Application Data->Research In Motion->Blackberry->Intellisync

You will see a couple of files. So far, I had no time to mess with these. But if you got itchy finger and press the Reset Configuration button in the Desktop manager/intellisync, you will see these folders replaced and promptly you won't be able to sync anymore.

I believe it's just the Beta 2 version that has the issues with syncing. I had no problems getting Beta 1 to sync.

Now that the file types have all been changed in Office Beta 2 to full XML we'll have to wait for RIM to update the software. :/

I had the same problem. BUT, I solved it! Probably through luck, though. Basically, I uninstalled BB desktop and office 2007 beta. I reinstalled office 2003, restored my .pst file, reinstalled bb desktop, configured the synch options, synchronized my BB, reinstalled office 2007 Beta as an upgrade, uninstalled office 2003. It has been working perfectly ever since.

Default Outlook 2007 Syncing Problems

I am running Outlook 2007 with an 8700. I encountered the problem listed above - that the BB syncs ok with Outlook 2007, but does not import certain fields (such as the "notes" section of an Outlook 2007 appointment). Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

If not, can Outlook 2007 be used by or exported to Outlook 2003? If I re-install Outlook 2003 will all my 2007 data (contacts, appointments, etc) be preserved?

Thanks for the help

Post 8700c intellisync to Outlook 2007 (beta)

I use Outlook 2007 beta w/Intellisync at my office (syncing works just fine); tried the same thing on my laptop (version 4.11/sp1)...works a bit better but won't let me configure Outlook as the default profile (mail, addressbook, etc.). Same setup, same OS (XPpro), but different results. If anyone has an idea how I can get the browse button to work in Intellisync configure PIM...I'd be grateful.

Guys....the problem is solved with Desktop 4.2 and upgrade your Outlook to 2007 beta2TR

I installed 4.2 on my computer for my 7100v and Outlook 2007 Beta2TR (released 16 sep 2006). I can now reset my sync profile, do mapping of fields and all the data can be sync correctly.

For those who can't sync the note in task field, you may want to check your mapping...it might have been wrongly set.
