I got a new PC and when I tried to install the desktop software I got the following error message:

Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors\LO5 Connector\oasisapi.dll failed to register. HRESULT - 2147221164.

What does this mean and how do I fix it?

If I follow through with the install and ignore the message it gives me others and does not synch with the handheld.

This is a Windows Installer error, check your event log for more details. Everything I found pointed to issues with Microsoft Office. If you have it installed, try performing a repair on the Office install.

Go to the Microsoft Downloads web site and download the latest Windows Installer (v3.1?) and give that a shot.

I got these errors installing the desktop software v4.1 (and also 4.0).

Installing the Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable fixed it. Woo hoo!

Installing the latest Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable did not resolve the install error. I had to register the atl.dll file.

Start > Run > regsvr32 atl.dll

Once this file is registered then click retry and the install will continue.

The Installer upgrade didn't work here either. However, it wouldn't let me register the .dll file until after i chose "ignore" and let the install run through. Then, I dropped into cmd and registered the problematic .dll. Seems to work fine now. Wonder what is causing this issue though, if it's not the installer? I shot a message to my folks out at RIM to see what they can come up with. I will follow up, if I get results from them. I hate to have to register that file for every setup I do ( i am the resident blackberry tech for a large corporation).
