I loaded the 1385 package and I need more memory. How much can I gain through optimization?

Can I reload the same OS just by executing the loader file from my PC?

Do I need to remove the vendor file if it's my vendor (ATT)?

No, you can't load the same OS on a device with that OS, you'll need to JL_cmder wipe, first.

And no need to remove the vendor.xml for your same carrier OS release.

Yep, very possible just from removing other languages, the sample media files like the video and maybe removing voice activated dialing if you don't use that feature.

On a 9000, you need to be upwards of 20-25+ mb free, in my opinion.

I have 15MB right now. The good news is it went up a little over night! I definitely use voice activated dialing and little else. With my phone backed up, is my contacts list safe from anything that might go sideways in a wipe? Be gentle. After 2 years with this 9000, I'm still an OS upgrade rookie.

The biggest file in the .822 list is net_rim_bb_medialoader_backgrounds_480x320_b.cod. Is that thing deletable? What about the giant "music" and "sonic" cods?

My DM gives me the option to install a ton of foreign languages. Does this mean they are not installed by default and thus deleting the related cods is redundant?

Can I delete Telenav_v50_480x360Lib.cod? I use google maps.

Yep, you can remove all those cod files you've mentioned, including any foreign languages, and the telenav cod.

question: things like other languages, sample video/pictures/songs---those don't free up "app memory" if you delete them do they?

I figured those would be in "device memory"

i'm looking to free up app memory...

Nope, RIM put 98K, half of it crap, on a 128K phone. Really. You can't make this crap up. Device memory is where your sext messages live.

Yes, removing them DO free up app memory IF you are installing them. The native RIM video, wallpapers, etc., are held in the app memory. Your own videos, pictures and music should be saved to the Media Card.

Anyone know what files I can lose if I never use BBM? Would I net enough mem to make it worth the hassle?

Never mind. Tried to install the BBM update and it failed, wiping the core version and netting me 3MB. Now even with Google Maps I have over 20MB to start. Thanks again for all the help.
