Default Japanese display and input on Storm

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone!

I know that the Bold can display and input Japanese. My friend proved that to me, but he said the Storm will be different.

I am searching and reading about Japanese for the Storm and for other BlackBerry's.

I hear Australian firmware might support Japanese.

My Storm is at home now waiting to be charged up! It is my first BlackBerry.

I know I can use Japanese on the iPhone very easily, and also on Windows Mobile, but usually with some issues.

Back to my searching! I would value any advice given here.

Sorry no Japanese input yet, I have Korean Input worked out though. I am working on the input aspect for several languages. Attached is a screen shot of the languages I installed on my Storm. Bear in mind I can't read any of the far eastern languages so I have no idea what each is. I know they are Chinese Japanese and Korean.

Hi GT5L !

thanks !

I certainly will be interested when input works.

If you wish, I can send you an email in Japanese and you could then show the display on your website !

Default I think I am close to get it work, but...

I have downloaded the Japanese input software from here
pccwmobile.com/portal/common/plaintext.jsp?fldr_id=6977

I loads on to the storm without any problem, but because it requires some sort of activation code as well as this software was made for the Bold or something else, I get the message 403 (service not available) when try to use the Japanese input. If someone can tweak the codes with the file, it may be possible to use this software. I am not technically sound enough, but someone out there should be able to do it. Please help.

Default Japanese Input can be installed

I finally found the guy who developed Japanese input software that works on any Blackberry even on Storm. I have installed it and it works fine. It is a little cumbersome software, but it does the work of writing Japanese. Here is the link to the webpage

nkozawa.com/wiki/index.php?KKJConv

You need to be able to understand Japanese in order to use this.

Good Luck.

It works great on my storm, but email recievers of mine cannot read the emails because the characters become "?s."
Does this happen on your device too?

No I do not have that problem. My email is coming through with clean Japanese characters. Did you install east asian language support onto your storm when you first configured your strom with the desktop manager?

Hi!

just install

9000jEastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel331_PL4.0.0.172_A4.6.0.1 90_CSL.exe from the Hong Kong site.

BUT you need to find the correct version for the Storm

Remember to delete vendor.xml from c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

I have Japanese working on my Bold using this free method

Well, I was excited to see that the new 4.7.0.83 Beta OS includes Japanese input, but after I load it on my phone, I still do not have Japanese as an input option! I uninstalled it, then installed other East Language inputs (which all worked), but Japanese still will not show up... I have checked, and I see all the needed .cod files that are listed under the Japanese Input section of the CJK.alx file, so is the installer just not loading the right files? Can I load them manually?

It sure would be nice to have a natural input, rather than having to switch to another program every time I want to type in Japanese (which is a lot). Why is Japanese the only language that isn't supported?! It's getting frustrating...

Dear BPBBNY. Thank you for the link to KKJConv. I have tried to download for my Storm and cannot seem to do this. I can read the Japanese, that's not the problem, but I cannot figure out how to open and activate once I have downloaded to the Storm, and the instructions are not very helpful. What can I do?

I'm alittle confused about this to. Can someone please post directions on how to enable Japanese input on the Storm. I've looked in several forums and haven't found much.
