See my thread as posted. The 9530 can be unlocked for free and will accept other sim cards when CDMA is turned off. Good Luck to all.

I received my 9530 from Verizon ans simply called them to unlock it free. I was also instructed how to turn off CDMA so that it will use another carriers sim card anywhere. it does work. I have posted the e mail I received from verizon showing how to do this. It was hassle free and it appears there is no need to buy an unlock code. I have included the headers in the e mail I have received to authenticate this information came direct from Verizon Wireless Customer service. Good Luck.

Yep. No use paying. I called Global Support this am and they walked me thru the unlock - no questions asked.

Do you have to be a current customer for them to provide you with the unlock code? I mean does the phone have to be activated?

That is not correct I unlocked mine the day after I got it. Just call *611 you probably just got a lazy rep. Tell them you are traveling internationally and need to use sim cards from other carriers.

The 60 day rule is fairly common. TMobile is actually 90 days.

I'm pretty sure they don't want you unlocking their phones and taking them else where. That's why the time limit.

I just called Verizon Gloabl Support, asked them for the unlock code because I was traveling in some weird places like CHAD or Sierra Leone, and five minutes later it was unlocked. I tested it with my AT&T SIM card in Tampa FL and it works fine (EDGE only). Why pay to have it unlocked when you can call and VZW will give it for free. Trick is to call during normal business hours as I called after hours and that call center told me they were not able to unlock it yet.

What code are they asking for to unlock. I got an unlock code from them and it isn't working. Instead of asking for the IMEI number like I am used to they asked for the MEID (Hex) code. Does this sound right to anyone?

I just called verizon to have it unlocked and they fed me a bunch of bs about how GSM doesnt work with verizon, etc. After getting down to it, they wouldnt give me the unlock code unless I had the sim card present that I would be using "overseas." The woman also denied that a sim card in the US would work and that I would not be able to get data overseas unless i used the verizon $65 dollars a month data plan for international travel. They also said that if i was to use another sim card later I would have to call them and unlock it again. Sounds like BS to me.

Definitely BS, just stick to your story until they give you the codes...
