Default Which IM application would you choose?

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, here it is. Just wanted to know which IM app would you choose for your BlackBerry. IM+ by Shape Services or VeriChat by PDAapps ?

I think I might try the IM+. I have Verichat, and it logs off all the time, and I have to do a hard reboot to connect again. I like the app when it is working though.

IM+ made a huge jump forward with their 2.1 release. It may not have all of the bells and whisles but their pricing model is a whole lot better than VeriChat's. I can't get over what they are charging for VeriChat, $35 to purchase the client and then another $30/yr after that to use it. That's just crazy especially when you realize that in the end they are using someone else's (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) network to actually provide the IM services. It also stays connected all day which I can't say for VeriChat.

I hate to be the noob and get yelled at about searching other forums, but I have tried. IM+ just takes away from your data plan like Verichat right? So if you have the unlimited data plan no extra charges. Unlike the reg that uses SMS messages.

I'm using the Webmessenger trial and am quite happy with it. It's soooo expensive though. Verichat logged me on and off all day. No 24/7 connection. IM+ was super sluggish, and didn't seem as glossy and easy to use. I'm going to use Webmessenger until the trial expires... and if Verichat hasn't finished their single socket version by then -- I'll pull the trigger on Webmessenger.

I honestly have no problems with verichat. I don't use it on a constant basis though, only when I'm expected to be away from a PC for more than 24hrs or so.

Default BerryVine Messenger

Has anyone got BerryVine Messenger working properly? I have version 1.23 and it still keeps losing the connection regularly. It has a one time cost which is attractive. It only works with MSN thus far but that's what I use primarily.
It's just so unreliable!

Have you looked at IM+ v2.1? It's alot better than 2.0 was. I was about to can IM+ and go with something else but 2.1 has changed my mind and I am staying with IM+ It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like VeriChat and Webmessenger but it is more than functional and the price is much better. It has also been quite stable as far as connections go and the performance is much improved over 2.0. I don't notice any lag at all.

Can you try this program? My attitude is - if you can't try it - don't buy it!
These people still have a long way to go to beat WebMessenger!

IM+ has a trial period of a few weeks before you have to buy it, and in my opinion it is a pretty good Instant Messenger for the price. I have been using it for a few months now, and since 2.1's release, I have had no troubles with it at all.

One of the problems I have consistently with Webmessenger is that it crashes my blackberry. A soft reboot never helps, I have to remove the battery for a full 2 minutes. WM claims it to be an MDS issue from Nextel......suprisingly it also affects my ability to use Webviewer from Reqwireless. Funny thing is, NOL works. ANd everythign is fine after the hard reboot.

IM+ 2.1 is the best in my opinion since it has not failed to either log you off or crash your BB. too bad you only get a 5 day trial.

I did ia small review for IM proggies in my blog if anyone is interested:

I checked out your app reviews wlee... Nice!

Did IM+ 2.1 fix the problems of the program being slow to load, and generally sluggish? Also, I couldn't seem to send IMs by pressing enter when I trial'd it... Had to hit SEND with the trackwheel and such. Was this changed?

I must be going blind. I went back to the Handango site and sure enough the trial option is there. Gotta take off the Oakleys when computing.

Just hit and at the same time to send the message.

Sounds like a feature request to me. I know I would much prefer single key sends.

No doubt. I also prefer just hitting when sending a message.

Well I purchased Verichat 2 days ago and am NOT at all happy with it. Seems to have a problem reconnecting after I make a phone call. Not only that, but I have to actually log off and exit then run the app again to get it to respond. Tech support seems weak so far. I hope there's something wrong on my side and they point it out to me soon or else I'm going to be SCREAMING for a refund.

Pluses:
--Verichat does however allow you to hit to send a message.
--It doesn't use SMS Messages
--It shows ALL my contacts

Negatives: (other then the one listed above)
--Wish there was some way that they could have an icon on the home screen for notifications

Anyhow...just my $.02

Thanks CINCNORAD.

I have not tried IM 2.1 yet. I'm trying to prolong my trial usage until the rumored proprietary IM apps launch which I hope is soon. If I had a choice between IM+ and Verichat, IM+ all the way. I don't know why everyone is ranting about Verichat. I don't mind the longon logoffs so much but if you have a 95% (estimated) success rate in sending/receiving IM's, that is a big no no in my book. 2.1 fixed major issues and I look forward to trying it out.

Am I missing something here? IM+ offers a 5 day trial which is not enough time. Someone posted 30 day trial which would be super.

Thumbs down Webmessenger.. Crashed the 7520

Well,

Just loaded up webmessenger and yes, it crashed my BB7520 Nextel. Serveral attempts did the same.

Just thought i'd add my experience .. looking toward the IM+ V2.1 at this point will let you know how that works out.
