The IM client isn't in ANY package, it's an OTA application that gets pushed to the device by T-mobile.

So this process wouldn't work if I wanted to install the 4.0 software on my Nextel 7510? I have the 4.0 core files, but not the radio software needed for the 7510.....

Anyone?

just an FYI. the only time i have received JVM 523 errors was when the time was WAY off from the network time. i just resynched the time with the network and set the time zone correctly and it worked. it changed it from current date and -5 time zone to -12 time zone and something in the year 1023 or something like that. this was after simply taking the battery out of a 7230 and putting it back in, go figure.

It won't even boot before I get the JVM 523 errors though. I'm sticking with 4.0 for now. I'm tired of wiping my address book every couple of hours

If somebody is using 4.0, why would they want to use 3.8 anyway, realistically 3.8 is going to be fairly close to 4.0 except with less features since its come out sooner.

I would like to give it a try in hopes that it's more stable then 4.0 which at best is beta, "very beta" I gave 4.0 a try and immediately went back to 3.7.3.20 which has been rock solid. If 3.8 is much more stable I wouldn't mind trying it on my 7780

Actually, they seem to be very similar in options. In fact, 3.8 has the modem software apparently included whereas 4.0 does not.

From what I have been told, the modem functionality is a feature of the 7290 and 7100 only so 3.8 and 4.0 versions of software for those devices would include it and no others, 3.8 on for example a 7230 wouldn't suddenly have modem support.

So far I haven't even been able to get 3.8 to run on a 7210. Supposedly one member had it going on a 7230 though... dunno

This has probably been posted/asked but what is the big deal in getting 3.8 software on a 7200/7700 series? Does it actually provide you with the 7100-esque UI, etc.

Not quite sure what you are gaining by putting or at least trying to put 3.8 on a 7200/7700 device?

I was following the installing instructions, but the apploader failed. The log file looks as:

[12:47:50:327] [JavaProgrammer] [0x00000640] [JavaProgrammer.cpp:744] Loading module "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7200-v3.7.1.37_P1.6.1.36\Java\net_rim_platform_resource __en_US.cod"

[12:47:50:367] [JavaProgrammer] [0x00000640] [JavaProgrammer.cpp:1032] JavaLoader operation failed (10): "Unspecified error encountered [J:0x0000000A]"

[12:47:50:367] [JavaProgrammer] [0x00000640] [JavaProgrammer.cpp:826] Writing module group "net.rim.platform"

[12:47:50:377] [JavaProgrammer] [0x00000640] [JavaProgrammer.cpp:835] Failed to write module group "net.rim.platform" with error 26

and so on...

Default BB 7230 as GPRS modem

Hi!
I´m new to BlackBerry solutions - I just got one (BB7230) and I need it to connect my laptop to internet. Is there such a possibility? I browsed the internet for any clues and most I found was about BB7100. WinXP on my laptop can't find any other modem besides built-in one. Please, if anyone managed to connect via BB7230 - help!

Best regards

Wow - you woke up a nine month old thread!
The 7230 is not capable of being used as a modem.
Only the very newest BBs can be used as modems (7100, 7290, 7250 - maybe).

There is an excellent sticky thread FAQ on using the BlackBerry As a Modem....
