Default Local Host File on 8520

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

Is there a way to define the local host file on Blackberry OS 4.6

For example, a file with the following format

80.90.100.101 www.aaa.com redirect
45.33.12.34 www.bb.com

And a request to the URLs will get resolved through the local host file rather than the ISP DNS Server.

Thanks

Not even with a java piece of code on blackberry.

I remember seeing a java code snippet on the net to configure proxy for internet requests. Currently, Blackberry OS does not allow configuring internet proxy.

Local host file seems to be quite basic functionality.

Thanks.

You can proxy through BES. That's the only way I know how to do it.
I know nothing of java code snippets for altering the networking configuration on the handheld directly.

Huh? No. Why would I?
You're the one looking for a solution, not me.

Hi NJBlackBerry/penguin3107,

I am kind a new to BB and Java Programming. I managed to find the relevant code on the net but I am not aware of how to build and deploy the code on my BB unit and therefore test it.

Since penguin3107 thought it wasn't possible to configure the proxy on BB so I assumed he would try it out upon knowing that it is somewhat possible with java developed code posted on the link to Blackberry support community given earlier.

Thanks anyways.

Hello,

Going back to the actual question related to local host file, is it possible to configure it via the BES as there is no such option on blackberry OS itself.

Thanks.

Yes, there is.
You can configure a hosts file or DNS on your BES (or wherever your MDS-CS instance is) and then force all handheld web browsing to use MDS.
The handheld will essentially use the hosts file from the BES.
