Default Pocketability

Please Login to Remove!

How well does the 8800 fit in ones pocket compared to the 8300 series? Is there really that much of a difference?

This will be my first Blackberry purchase. I don’t use cell phone cameras and SureType frustrates me. Thus the 8100 off my list and the 8300 I am indifferent on. However, I have just always despised holsters so the pocketability of a device is very important in my book.

Thanks,

Jesse

not well, and not recommended. The lint and dust in one's pocket play havoc on the trackball. The 88xx is only slightly larger than the 83xx.

You want a holster, there is an intended purpose for the holster with the magnet to "sleep" the BlackBerry, and save battery life.

Wirelessly posted (blackberry 8140)

I rarely pocket my devices unless I have a cargo pocket to use

I have been putting my devices in my pockets for a few years now with no problem. Maybe I need to rethink that approach.

I often put mine in my shirt pocket without much of an issue, or the inside pocket of my overcoat here in winter. I dont mind the leather case that comes with it as it does have the cool magnet thingy that does whatever it does to the phone (sorry for being so technical there) and it has a nice clip that allows you to move the case to any position.

Have never tried my jeans but in dress pants again, I don't even know its there.

I have lint Gnomes that take care of my lint in my pockets, so I do not have any...

My 8310 came with this sleeve case:

I don't really like it because it doesn't have a clip and I didn't think slipping it in my pocket was a good idea. I got a belt clip for it - just plastic and the BB clicks in and out of it. Is that bad in any way? I like to take care of my electronics so I'm just wondering.

I've been keeping my 8800 in my shirt pocket as I did with the 8700 it replaced. I have the rubber skin that prevents it from slipping out. When I don't have a shirt pocket, I put it in my front pants pocket or jacket in the winter.I have a screen protector to prevent scratches. Other than cleaning the trackball a couple of times in about 14 months, no problems.

The moisture in your jeans pocket will make the 8800 turn into FrankenBerry !! It'll do all sorts of crazy stuff send txts phone contacts connect to net anything and everything all on its own untill it is completely moisture free.So I have been keeping mine in its holster now with hardly any problems..

Good point. I've had flip phones all my life so I have never had to deal with an exposed keypad.

When I'm stepping out I like to keep my AT&T Tilt in my front pants pocket. The blackberry doesn't give me quite the look I'm going for ;)

Just for one stop answer shopping, does the standard case that comes with the 8800 series not seem too pretentious?

If you want to keep in your pocket instead of hanging on your hip, try a flip case. Just google search on 8830 flip case and you'll get a bunch of options. I keep mine on my belt, so I like holsters from Seidio, but then again, I can't stand anything in my pockets at any time. No keys, wallet, pens, change, bb, nothing.

If the OEM holster works fine, I will try that. I am not against a belt clip. My issue is akin to wearing a watch. They always are bothersome until you get used to it, then you feel naked without it.

I have always been an accessory minimalist. The less hassle I have to deal with to use my stuff, the better.

I must be a total weirdo, I've been carrying my curve, and now my 8820 in my pockets as long as I've had them. Never had an issue with it getting dirty, every now and then I have to pick a little bit of lint out of the crevices, but my trackball still works like a charm.

I do have one of the clip holsters from seidio, which I use ocassionally, but I just don't like having a "bat utility belt" look going on.
