Angry New eBay app - BRICKED MY VZW TOUR

Please Login to Remove!

So, I just had a lovely experience with the new eBay for BB app that's available through App World. Finished the App World download, the software caused a reboot and then up comes a 552 Reload Software error and my VZW Tour is now BRICKED. DM doesn't even see it, but thankfully app loader does and it looks like I might be on the path to restoring the OS...likely lost all my data, but I think I have an older backup somewhere.

Thanks alot RIM/eBay for this piece of garbage!

BTW, before anyone asks I'm not running some wacko hybrid 5.0 build or anything like that; the only thing non-standard about my BB was that I was running the RELEASED .57 from Sprint instead of VZW .40 or .61.

That's the risk you take playing with Beta versions.

Wirelessly posted

The ebay app isn't beta. Its available for download in AppWorld.

Sorry to hear that it screwed your phone up. Lesson learned to always back your phone up at least once a day if you are always installing stuff.

Yes, it is.
The app is still in beta and if you read the description in App World, it also indicates such.

Why blame Rim? A lot of people build APP's for many devices. Not all are approved by the manufacturer of the device.

Why blame RIM???? uhh, I dunno, maybe because it's a app that RIM is promoting as theirs?

Sheesh, yeah, I guess I'm the jerk in this one for trusting them. Whatever.

Sure, it's beta, and I knew that. I guess having downloaded plenty of ALPHA apps before, and never once had the app nuke the OS immediately upon install, I kinda didn't see this coming. Sounds like the development team needs a little more rigor around promoting their code to BETA status.

Anyway, now that I've unbricked my phone I'll be sure to give them a nice comment on APP WORLD to help promote this app.

Attacks are usually not my style as you can see my all my posts and helpfulness to others.

However, when somebody has their phone bricked from an app on AppWorld and the reply that he gets is an arrogant and not helpful comment, I could not resist.

Your point is taken though.

My T-Mobile 8900 did the same thing. I had to spend all day at work with a brick until i could get home and wipe my device for the second time this week.

The app appears to work just fine with my Storm1.
Hopefully when you restore, all is well.
I wonder if another app that you may have installed may have had some sort of conflict? Might be one to actually send to the developers

Only the software industry gets away with broadly releasing something and saying oh, it's a beta, sorry for the problems.

No such luck, I had to blow it all away. at least I had a back up that was only a few days old. Personally, I think it's just my device telling me I need a new one like the spiffy 9700
