Default Outlook Sync Through ISA -> OWA

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone, my company doesn't currently have enough blackberries to have a BES but we might get one in the near future. But for now we have a ISA server with OWA behind it. (You can access your exchange mail from a URL). Now my question is, can I sync my task and to dos in outlook to my Blackberry? I'm planning to get a Bold if I can do this, but I'm not sure if this is possible. And if this is possible what are the steps to do this?

ALso I wouldn't mind plugging the device into my computer to sync... But I would prefer to just have it synced over the air.

I know this is possible because my Android devices has everything pushed to it. (Mail, Calendar, Contacts)

In your environment, you can't sync your PIM over the air without BES.
If your company permits, you should be able to use BlackBerry Desktop software on your office PC and sync via USB cable.

There is no third party software that can do this?

Talk to your company about Blackberry Professional Software. It does the same thing as the full BES, but is tailored towards companies with less than 30 bb users.

Do what? Sync your BlackBerry PIM over-the-air with Outlook?
No, there isn't.

Outlook PIM ? (Calendar, Contacts, Memos, To-Dos)
No, you can't sync that over-the-air without BES.

If all you need is Email delivery, then you *might* be able to do that over-the-air depending on how OWA is set up. BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) needs to be able to access OWA directly on standard ports. My guess is your ISA server is going to get in the way of that.

I wonder why an application is available on Android to sync Calendar, Contacts, Memos, and To-Dos but not on Blackberry. (Using OWA)

Yeah I know you can get email for sure using OWA because we currently have people doing it here.

And by over the air I mean just update via data connection, sorry for not being clear if I was referring to something else earlier.

Because your BlackBerry device integrates with OWA by way of BIS.
BIS doesn't support over-the-air PIM sync. It's a messaging transport only.

I suspect the Android devices are using some other integration method.

Okay, and there is no third party software that will allow for over the air PIM sync?

You're asking the same question.
The answer is going to be the same too.

If you don't have BES... and you want to sync your Outlook PIM (to-do, memo, calendar, address book) with your BlackBerry, then you need to use a USB cable and BlackBerry Desktop software on your office PC.

Wow that's crazy. Does RIM not give such support in their SDK? Makes sense if they want lots of BES licenses sold.

Wirelessly posted (8800)

Look at Funambol. It will sync PIM data OTA (I think Android uses a variation of Funambol for syncing - and I'm even more certain that Google Sync uses the technology).

There are date limits for calendar syncs, and when I used it the contact sync was only just underway. It's fairly reliable though. I recall my account was free through ScheduleWorld - you should be able to find all of these through a google search.
