I have a 7520 with Nextel and want a GPS program that will track my movement and tell me how far i have traveled. Which program will do this, I don't necessarily car about maps i just want it to track me. Will Spot do this?

For tracking of movements as well as for plotting your position on a map on your blackberry, try Comet Tracker from actsoft

With thesoftware you can be tracked via your blackberry, but can also pull up routing and directions as well as a map that can plot other users on it.

I am also using Wayfinder (North America) on my 8703e paired with a Holux GPSlim236 (Bell Mobility so internal GPS is not available)... So far I am impressed... It's extremly accurate and responsive!

You can download a 5 day trial if you want... But at $99.00 lifetime support.. It might be a good choice.

Can you tell us more. How do the maps get on the 8700? What exaclty does the software do on the PC vs the 8700?

You need to download the client to your 8700. If you have a Bluetooth GPS paired with your Blackberry, the software detects it right away and start using it. You then use the client to see your location on a map, find places (POIs), Map directions, etc etc. I think the concept is very similar to Telenav... There are no maps on your device, they are downloaded on your device as you go. As I said in my previous post, I used the software to go to work and back and the voice prompt were as accurate if not more then my Garmin Quest GPS.

Not sure what you mean by your last question "What exactly does the software do on the PC vs the 8700?" If you are referring the web interface "MyWayfinder.com"? The site gives you the ability to select favourites, prepare routes, etc... When you start the client on the Blackberry it synchronise the favourites on the device as well.

David: I live in the US but frequently travel to Europe (Italy, Spain, etc.) and wonder what GPS software would work on my BB8700c with the Sirf ii in Europe. I believe Telenav is currently only available for US/Canada maps. Thanks.

Curious how well? What happens if you take a wrong turn. How quick is it to catch up and redo the route?

How easy is it to zoom etc.

Which BT puck are you using?

Not bad... Assuming you have a solid Network Connection... It reroutes you quickly enough that you don't have to drive too far to get a new route.

Zoom is easy enough (5) zooms in (0) zooms out.

I use a Holux GPSlim236 (Excellent btw)!

Yes for sure. The Holux model seems to work according to posts here. I am going to be borrowing a Delorme BlueLogger and see if that will work.

I've got an 8700c with the BT 359W receiver, and it works fine with bb maps.

I've just used it bopping around town via car, so it really hasn't been tested as a means to follow directions yet, but it seems to be a useful widget. I'll take it with me to san fran next week, so maybe I'll have more to report if I try it to actually get somewhere I don't already know how to get to.

A couple of odd differences though. For one, people are talking about an LBS menu choice. I never see this. Not even once I start gps. Does that choice only appear on phones with internal gps receivers?

Also, the directions are far too small to read, and the upcoming street alert doesn't seem to tell you which way to turn. Is there a clue in something like the color or "+" sign it flashes?

Another is that the gps self identifies itself as a BT-360C4C receiver on the bb. The package it came in said it was a 359, and I can't find a reference to a 360 anywhere. Anyone know why there is a difference?
