Default Bricked Tour

I pluged mine in to DM yesterday, did an auto-backup and the saw an update for 4.7.1. I tried to update and when it got to 5 ou of 11 processes left, it tried to connect TVM and failed. Locked screen said Need Software Loaded. Would not do anything after that. Went to Verizon, they had not seen that before. They were out of replacements and gave me a new one even though it was past my initial 30 days. Was advised by Verizon to ignor the update.

yes, I will use the smithmicro version when it's there. I have tried the leaked version yesterday from megaupload, very very unstable, tour freeze keyboard no response - even though the upgrade process is so smooth(backup, upgrade, restore all done in 11 steps) and no need to activate BES again....i have now downgraded back to .40...no problem at all.

Here is an interesting note.
I upgraded to the leaked version yesterday morning. Last night after this thread started, I hooked up to DM and it told me there was an update available. I didn't want to do it then because I suspected it would put me back to .40. When I clicked "check for updates" I got the BES message.
This AM, I went ahead with the popped up upgrade that it told me was available when I plugged in. It was .53.
I suspect that this is because I still had the software on my laptop. But, I had already upgraded so it all seemed a little strange.
Anyway, I went through with it and it clearly wasn't a true upgrade. More like a synchronization of files. No need to reactivate on BES and no long backup, erase, restore process.
So when the file shows up on SmithMicro, I'll probably do it again, depending on the file name.

I agree with you - The .53 software is a good improvement over an initially good version. I have ZERO complaints.

Crackberry Forums is loaded with people complaining about issues with the upgrade process. Those who had success seem to like what they got.

Wouldn't expect them too either. Three weeks after an official MR was posted to their website, I wouldn't expect any more than a quarter of their people to know.

Absolutely.

I have been upgrading OS on my Blackberries since 2005 and never had one fail yet. Sometimes I just scratch my head and wonder WTF?

Earlier post said the phone felt 'snappier' after upgrade to .53. Ditto on that!! My Tour is screaming through tasks now. Upgrade went smooth, no issues at all. Voice quality still iffy, but overall I'm quite pleased with this release.

Two days later and I'm still loving it. While my trackball is still having issues (left-right) the unlock process and overall snappiness is much improved.

Wirelessly posted (Lets Go Canes!)

I heard VZW may have pulled this release. Can anyone confirm?

I just plugged into my ThinkPad (just for BB stuff - I'm a Mac user otherwise) to backup and got the notification that there is an update available. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager software (v. 4.7) only says "Core Applications" updates and only says "4.7" but I'm assuming this is the .53 software. I'm updating now and we'll see. I'm on Sprint BTW.
