wow wild thread...the bt 359 works great as the gps receiver and with that said you also need a program such as tomtom6 or telenav to rock and roll....I love GPS.......

The GlobalSat is NOT a GPS *antenna*, its a GPS *receiver* and you need more than an "antenna" to pick up GPS signals. Its confusing because there ARE "external GPS antennas" that can be used with some receivers for better reception - but the BT-359 isn't one of them, and an "antenna" will not allow your BlackBerry to receive GPS signals.

A TV antenna won't allow you to watch TV, a radio antenna won't let you listen to the radio, and a GPS antenna won't allow you to use GPS!

This is correct. AND Verizon has crippled the internal GPS so some users are getting pucks for theirs. I wonder why VZ did this?

One queestion, how does TomTom6 work on teh BB8700 series when they have no SD card? The only GPS guided maping software that I know off that will run on the 8700 are, wayfinder, BB Maps and telenav (for direction maping with GPS).

Do any of the 870X-models have the Qualcomm GpsOne chip embedded as it is in VZW's Navigation-capable cellphones?

I don't have specific knowledge, but my educated guess would be that that's the chip they're using, based on:

* the 8703e is the only 87xx CDMA device, AND the only GPS-enabled 87xx device

* the datasheet advertises that it uses the "800/1900 MHz cdmaOne™, CDMA2000® 1X and Ev-DO networks" and it uses a Qualcomm CDMA chipset

So, it seems the most likely path for them would have been to include the GPS solution from the same company they're using for the radio. But again, that's only a guess on my part.
