Well the way I understand it LTE will be one standard. So RIM will only have to make one phone. LTE should be SIM card controlled. ATT and Verizon are pushing LTE early in 2010. The base-stations are being tested but there is no mobile devises yet. This is all being done in labs. What makes this great for Verizon is one standard mean device should be cheaper. CDMA manufacturers pay Qualcomm for licensing. With LTE it will be a global standard and any one can make the phones and there chipsets.

Making one phone should put RIM on the same playing field as Palm and Apple, which will be nice to see. As it stands right now, they have to make 2 of everything to account for the different radios. It's not a terribly difficult task, as we've seen things like the 88xx have many flavors, but the release lag tells me they don't have enough engineers to cram it down their pipe at the same time.

Could you imagine the delays if Palm chose to create a GSM version of the Pre and Apple chose to create a CDMA version of the iPhone? The delays would be incredible on both platforms. Maybe for LTE, RIM will scrap their current development and re-invent themselves. It seems to me that while RIM has some clear advantages (exchange interop, push, strong physical keyboard) they are lacking in several others (application developer community, touch screen, graphics). Maybe streamlining around LTE will put RIM on the track to match those other phones. I would hate to see RIM go the way of Palm and have no devices for 2 years while they re-invent the OS.

I wonder how sprint will do when 4G starts up. Because sprints 4G is WiMAx (Clearwire) They have no real plans to do what Verizon,ATT and T-mobile are going to start doing next year. What I am getting at is all the cool phones will be 4G (LTE) and sprint will be behind waiting for a CDMA phone to be made.

Sprint was a great company but when they bought Nextel and after that they bought clearwire and they lose large number of subs every quarter. I just don't see them being a big player much longer. So enjoy your Tour it might be the last one they get? I hope I am wrong? But looking at everythings I read I think I am some what correct. I would like to see them stay because we all know the more big guys are out there the better our prices are. I think if we lose sprint we might see prices go up for data and voice service?

My sense is that if we don't get carrier announcements within a week, we don't see this device in mid July.

Not necessarily. Verizon quietly released the 8230 without much notice.

For those waiting on the BlackBerry Tour from Verizon, it can't come soon enough. Thankfully, the wait is nearing an end - RIM and Verizon have already announced the Tour and we've known it's launching sometime relatively soon ('this summer'). The document above reinforces this... the BlackBerry Tour 9630 is present on this Verizon Wireless Mail-In Rebate Form which is valid from June 28th to August 1, so we know it has to hit somewhere within this window.

It's nice to see a rebate for retail customers. A few corporate(enterprise) customers have already received the Tour for evaluation.

But no Wi-Fi, HUGE MISTAKE. RIM is asleep......................

Who the heck needs/wants a camera in a Blackberry? Wi-Fi far more useful!

Depends on the users situation.. I ok with the lack of wifi.. RevA will be a nice enhancement..

(Don't get me wrong I would love to have wifi especially in the office, turns a 5 seconds BBM conversation into a 2 hour conversation lol)
