Default Is there any logic to the numbering of devices?

I though I had cracked it, xx2x = WiFi, xx3x CDMA, but now the 8310 has thrown me. In the good old days the number meant something, are RIM now playing device bingo with the numbering schemes?

Are there any xx1x devices besides the 8310? If not, that seems to indicate that they're GPS-equipped for lines where the base doesn't include GPS (i.e not the 88xx).
