Default 2 questions about a drained battery

Please Login to Remove!

Nice to be back. I retired the Curve and my wife and I both now have Verizons’ version of the Storm.

She dropped her phone into her purse and then later that day pulled it out to find it was completely dead. I suspect something in her purse made contact with the screen and activated a program or the phone and drained the battery. She locks the screen now.

I eventually got the battery recharged although it seemed to take three times as long as my battery usually does. Her phone works however I notice that leaving the battery on the charger all night, where certainly by the next morning the battery would be fully charged, the gold lightning bolt is still in the battery indicator. With my phone once the battery is fully charged the lightning bolt disappears indicating, I imagine, the charger has shut down. I think her charger may be cooking her battery.

So the questions:

Is the lightning bolt indicating that the charger continues to cook the battery even after it has reached full charge?

If in fact the battery has been damaged by being completely drained, what are the consequences, will it work mostly like it did before? Will it discharge faster? Fail completely? Is there a risk to the phone or my wife to continue to use the battery?

I did a search on this issue but didn't find any helpful responses although it's clear that others have had similar problems.

Thanks all,

Gary

1.) yes i believe electricity is still flowing in the battery and phone to cook it.

2.) depends how long youve charged it for in the past. i usually just charge mine through the night and i havent had any problems.

manuals usually suggest that you charge your phone for a certain amount of hours before you use the phone so that you get a better life out of your battery

An occasional full discharge shouldn't be detrimental to the life of the battery, but as pointed out above, the initial charge is the important one.

Charging overnight is almost always sufficient to remove the charging icon. There have been numerous reports to the contrary, though. She may have a bad battery. VZW will usually replace it with little to no objection.
