Please Login to Remove!

OMG this is pissing me off now. I downloaded and installed MSDE Manager and it can't login!

So I uninstalled the MSDE instance and then ran the following command:

setup INSTANCENAME=BESMgmt SAPWD=Password1

Which recreated it. I started the service.

And still can't login using Password1!!

What is going on? What am I missing?

and when you connect you're connecting to: SERVERNAME\BESMgmt as the Server?

you don't need INSTANCENAME to perform the install ...

setup SAPWD=Password1

would have worked and installed MSDE as the default instance

You created the instance? Check

You tried to login using 'osql -E -S servername\BESMgmt'? Check

Which account are you logged on as and does that account have local admin rights?

When you try to enter in the above osql line, does it just fail with an error or does something else happen?

If I do that it gives me the osql command prompt: 1>

I'm logged in as the domain admin.

So it lets you in which means it should be fine.

Copy the BESMgmt files to the new instance folder that were created and attach them with the same commands as last. Afterwards there is a command you can run to get the keys out but I have to do some digging on that.

Looks like hdawk posted a link on that.

I found another one:

BlackBerry Search Results

I'm going to test it myself right now on my test BES.

Bingo - I can connect using NT Authentication. I now have a list of databases, devices etc.

Wow! I just attached the BESMGmt.mdf file and viewed the data - I can now see all the license keys.

How do I get BES to login and start using this database? Is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks guys!

BlackBerry Server Configuration and go through a change database to point the BlackBerry Server to that database.

You also might have to do that in the BlackBerry Manager where you right click on the BlackBerry domain and go to the database tab and put in the right information. But I would go through the change database wizard first.

I only have Blackberry ENterprise Server Management mmc, and within that if I change the database to SERVER\BESMGmt with NT Authentication it can't login.

What's the change database wizard?

Thanks!

I should add - this is BES 3.6 Small Business Edition I believe. The only option in the start menu is Blackberry Enterprise Server Management mmc.

It can't login to the database, whether I choose NT or SQL authentication. Maybe the besadmin account doesn't have the rights to login under NT Auth?

Wow. Just looking at the history of this post, your BES has been hosed since 6/27! You must really be catching some flack at work!

Have you tried using SQL auth and loggin in as sa?

It's been a long time since i've used SQL Lite (MSDE) but IIRC, managment is almost identical to the full blown SQL server.

Open the Enterpirse Mgr, expand the server group so you see the local server, expand that and expand Security. Create a new account (or select an existing one) and bring up it's properties. On the Database Access tab, make sure that the BESMgmt DB is checked off..

Not true - the existing Blackberries work fine with BES, it's just I can't administer the damn thing so if I need to add new users I'll be screwed.

I can't even login to the DB using MSDE Manager with sa/Password1, only with NT Auth. BES can't login with either

YES!!!!!

I did it!!!

I specified the database server as SERVER\BESMgmt and the Database name as BESMgmt and it worked!!

It must've been because the file I re-attached to the database was called BESMgmt, therefore the complete DB path was SERVER\BESMgmt\BESMgmt!!!

Thankyou so much everyone for your help - if any of you are in London I owe you a pint!

A quick heads up - I uninstalled MSDE Manager (thinking I no longer needed it) and it sabotaged my database on its way out. So I had to reinstall it, recreate the database and re-attach BESMgmt!

Still, if I end up having to pay $70 for MSDE Manager then I've got out of this lightly.
