Default bb maps or google maps

Please Login to Remove!

hi all,

i recently got an at&t version of the 8310 bb curve which is unlocked and i am using it on the Rogers Network in Canada. I noticed though it does not have BB Maps or Google Maps installed on it. I have a data plan and everything ready to go. Is this normal ? or do I have to download the program. If so how big are the files as Rogers data plan in Canada is crap and i only get 25mb a month. Thanks for your help.

BBMaps uses much less data than Google. Any kind of mapping uses quite a bit of data, so beware.

Either application will be about 300kb (one time download). Using the applications can add up quickly. As mentioned above, BBMaps uses much less data and does a great job for point to point directions. I really like the layout of Google Maps and the simple GPS integration (the little blue moving dot is awesome).

So long as you keep an eye on your usage, 25MB should allow you to play with either application without going outside of your data bundle.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020: BlackBerry8320/4.3.1.27 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Voice guidance is not a feature in Google Maps.

voice is usually a paid subscription. I do not know of any free app that has voice.

Only TeleNav can talk you to where you're headed.

But do not miss Windows Live Search for Mobile (ota download from wls.live.com). After using all three, in my opinion, WLS is the better of the three...

Don't they all have pluses and minuses. The BB maps is really quick and nice interface if you want to see where you are. WLS has the best movies and traffic. Google is nice with the cell tower feature too.

Agree. Did notice though that WLS has much more detail world-wide, than
all the rest, especially South of the border.

I think Micr*soft had a bit of a head start on mapping as they have had mapping software out for some time with the PC, PocketPC, etc. That may explain the better detail and probably some of it's features. I should give it a try I suppose ............... NOT!

I still haven't made up my mind though between GMaps, BBMaps or Mapquest. The little blue dot in GMaps is really cool though. LOL

Between BBMaps and Google Maps, I prefer GM.

For voice navigation, you need an application that supports a GPS subscription, right?

Amaze GPS is free download and provides voice turn by turn. Works pretty well but don't rely on the route without at least checking it a little. It sends you weird ways sometimes. If I had to guess I think it was developed in the UK and works better there. All in all it has most, if not all features of Telenav.

It would be the best option for reliable, voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions.
