Default Curve Hot spot @ home problems.......

Please Login to Remove!

I just upgraded to an 8300 with TMO and put my 8100 Pearl away.....

After 3 days I have noticed:

1. Lag time is incredibly slow
2. Hot spot @ home 50% of the time the caller cannot hear me answer.
3. Keys are too small to be comfortable to type.

I never thought that I would love the Suretype and the Pearl over the Full keyboard but I honestly feel the Curve, at least the one I received, is not well built...and the keyboard is just too small.

I could live with all that but the clients not being able to hear me when I answer is a big problem. Anyone else have this???

Thank you

Elliot

Is this an unlocked 8300 or did you get an 8320? Are you running the lastest firmware .180 which is available at the top of te 8300 forum?

As for H@H are you using a T-Mobile router? If not do you have QoS configured?

As for the keyboard I to came from a Pearl, It is a personal preference of what works for you.

I've been using my 8320 for about 3 weeks. So far the audio seems fine. I use it in work to make calls all the time without any complaints yet.

I have found that the router is *very* critical to getting a proper connection. In my office I had to replace the router with the t-mobile model in order for it to automatically connect.

Default Curve Ball

Thank you for the input.

I purchased this Curve 8320 from the T-Mobile "Factory" store here in Austin, TX...so it is not unlocked and all should be working the way they have it set up.

My router is a Netgear with the 7 internal antenna that has worked extremely well for the 3 WiFi computers in my house. The 8320 paired up immediately and the setup took no more than 10 seconds.

The firmware that came with the 8320 is the 4.2.2.171 and I have not updated anything, yet. I went inside the Admin on the router at 192.168.1.1 but could not find the QoS settings.

I just put the SIM card in and will download the Firmware and see if there is anything different today.

Thank you

Elliot

I have not yet installed the T-Mobile version of the router since I have the same one (Linksys) already. I have not had a single problem with my 8320 connecting to the router and it has not been specially configured at all. It is the same model number as the one T-Mobile gives HS@Home users. I have yet to upgrade the software on the 8320 either and won't do so unless I have a reason to first.

Default 8320

Great Idea....thank you....

I will go down to Starbuck's (where else) today and give it a test drive.

So far today the Hotspot@home is working but I find that it is not as clear at all as my Pearl or Motorola W490.

My Samsung 717 which is a great phone is much clearer and that one is on AT & T which is never as clear as TMO.

FYI, in my area, 25 miles outside Austin, AT&T has the best signal but TMO has the clearest strongest sound....go figure.......anyone else notice a difference in clarity on the same phone between TMO and ATT?

Thanks

Elliot

Definitely upgrade as the H2H UMA issues are almost a thing of the past with the new OS. You can do what you want, but I have run .171, .175, and .180 . I nioticed no change between the last 2 but the difference between both of those and the original is like night and day. I can now hold a UMA call at home whereas before it would drop and was very choppy. Once again it is you choice, but you have nothing to lose and functionality to gain with the upgrade.

Yes, I agree with you here. I have heard many others say they have no problems, and everything works great. No here. Same issues as you. Sometimes it works, other times it has issues. I've updated to .175, which helped, and I've played with the router but seen no real differences.

All in all, its neat, but I think there are still some issues that need to be worked out...until then I am switching to ATT, which has much better coverage from my experience. When I travel I can easily use Skype, and without any configuring needed.

Running .175 on the 8320, with a linksys wrt54g @ home ... flawless, not 1 problem at all. Sounds like a router config issue / Internet issue if you're running .175

In my case, I am guessing it is the internet. Even though I have a 12/1 Mbit connection, I am guessing my ISP (Cox) is doing something with the packets, or my latency just sucks. Either case, UMA is doesn't work well enough for me to use it.

But glad to see others are successfully using it It's a good technology.

I have the same Netgear router as the op, model should be wpn824. I have huge issues with the UMA to Edge handoff while it works perfectly from Edge to UMA. I'll upgrade my firmware and see if that helps. But while in the house, I cant recommend any better router, with its multiple antennas, it finds me a perfect signal anywhere. My house is a very old house (built in 1893) so wifi is terrible generally, if this firmware update fixes the handoff issues then I can recommend no better pair.

What should the QOS settings be on my router?

Default Curve/router

After upgrading to .180 there have been zero problems with phone calls from the router.

Tier 2 told me that there were a number of issues that were fixed and that was one of them....
