Default Jivetalk vs IM+: Jive finally has some competition..

Please Login to Remove!

is it just me or does anyone else agree that the new IM+ is pretty darn amazing. Blue LED notification light, custom alerts, ability to rename contacts, TRANSLATOR BOTS ARE AMAZING!!, and a slew of other features I have yet to see jivetalk do as effectively. Jivetalk is great indeed as well though and is a very lightweight program that is offered cheaper compared to IM+. Jive for 29.99 vs IM+ for 49.99. I think the custom alerts on IM+ also can be set for each contact as well. I havent ever seen anything like that.

Which do you guys like better and why? I'm about to spend the money on one of these programs for my blackberry and am torn between the 2.

I haven't used IM+ so I can't really say. I would just ask are the little extras worth $20 extra? If so, then IM+ is the ticket. I have had issues with some people who have purchased IM+ where there messages come to me in 3's and even 4's (using Google Talk.)
It only happened with people using IM+ with Google. When they switched back to the OEM Google Talk app for BB the messages only came once. I can't tell you much more than that.

Yeah, my vote is for JiveTalk. I had them both and found JiveTalk better. I can do everything I need to do for $20 less.

$20 for one device license or $30 for lifetime license. For $20 if you switch devices you have to buy a new one. $30 is worth it.

Yeah, I have the $30 license. My last statement was saying that I can do what I need to do for $20 less than IM+ ($30 compared to $50).

Support is gone? what do you mean by that? Just last week they were on 5.07 and recently are on 5.08. Works great. Wondering what issues are people having? I find im+ to be so much more improved nowadays.

You should try both. I have been using them both for a long time and still can't decide which is better. Both work really well. Each have their strong and weak points. Every few weeks one of them will have log-in server issues, so I run the other for a few days. The price difference is about equal to what I save monthly by not having to send international text messages. And the latest IM+ version is fantastic.

IM+ has been around for a very long time. They and webmessenger were the best, then JT came around. Pricing varies as has been pointed out. The bots are cool. I guess IM+ isn't feeling the heat yet. I thought they would drop their price some after JT came out.

I have been experiencing a lot of timeout and login errors with JiveTalk in the last week. Usually a reboot and taking out the battery works, but it gets annoying to do that every few days.

im+ is way to over priced, I think they try to make up for their losses in the pocket pc arena by over charging blackberry users. The blackberry version can't be cracked where as the pocket pc version has been for years. I mean it's $50 for blackberry while $30 for all others it is just rediculous. JiveTalk and Yak-On are the best im apps I have used for the blackberry hands down. Both coming in for half the price of im+.

Yeah I've been testing out both as well. I like the pop up notifications on the im+ and how they dissapear quickly. I also really enjoy the blue LED notification. I think even Blackberry alerts wouldnt allow you to customize jivetalk specifically do to that. Yeah but I definitely think the price is very expensive. IM+ trial ran out and i have 8 more days left with jivetalk. Grrr.

They don't answer support email.
I was getting email from them, now the last 3 emails have gone completely unanswered.
$49, no support...NO SALE!

Jivetalk for me here is why:

*Much more affordable than IM+ (if IM+ is smart, I would bring down their price so that they can compete better)
*Great customer support! (love this one)
*Frequent updates (keeps gettin better and better)
*You can rename contact, have an alert if they sign on.
*Very User friendly
*Nice interface
*Chat Style rockz
*Very Reliable and fast
*And much much more..

I gotta look into the email support thing. IM+ is getting a slew of updates more recently though. You can set alerts aside from buddy pounce standard global alert?

Are the translator bots exclusive only to IM+ or can i get those on my aim contact list and just use with jivetalk?

I still can't get over the really cool blue LED alert..but then again does anyone know of the blue LED stays on or if its only for a quick couple of seconds..my testing period ran out :(

Thumbs up IM+ is better

I prefer IM+.

IM+ is much easier to use and has a cleaner interface. Furthermore, they always presented themselves as commercial software and never posed as "Freeware" like Jivetalk What a scam that was . . . . then the rest of you clammed up and bought it like a bunch of fish . . . or should I say school of fish
