Sundog,

No sweat! I know it can be very frustrating trying to get new equipment when it comes out. It doesn't help either that new RIM equipment releases are more akin to a mystery than anything else! Seems like it doesn't matter what the particular unit is, there's often confusion as to when it's officially released, who can purchase it and who can't once it's released, and then of course the dreaded phone calls to the particular carrier that tells you "there's no such thing as the Blackberry ...." Ughh!

Anyway, I hope you get yours ordered soon. Good luck.

Default It is here!

Got through on the NBO number yesterday, and its here today! And I didn't have to migrate from our AT&T plan! So this forum is fun, and usefull! Now if I can only get the battery cover off. . .

Got my 7100g today, looks great.

Does anyone know how to change the main menu screen to have Icons instead of Text, just like the other 7100's.

Got mine today - takes some getting used to after having my 7280 for a while.

sundog - NBO is 800-845-9681. If you don't already have a foundation account, I don't know if they can help you - but it may be worth a try.

RXDI - search for themes. You need to install either the tmobile, vodafone, or default (not the default (list) theme that comes on the 7100g) to get icons.

Default ok - now that some of you guys have received the unit...

Write us a review!!!

- menu speed/lag
- battery
- bluetooth paired with heatdset/handsfree

as the unit is mirrored off the "t" version - many cingular "insiders" claimed teh QA process was more stringent which added to the delay of the product launch.

please share the knowledge!

:D

regards,
dolo

I have been using my 7100g for a day now. So far I'm very pleased with the performance. My most recent model was 7290. I really like the format of the screen (portrait vs. landscape). It feels better. Having polyphonic ring tones and speakerphone are great plusses. No longer do I have to be ashamed at the sound of the ringer.

This is purely unscientific, but the 7100 feels much quicker than my 7290. This could have been because of my using the unsupported HK 4.0 software on the 7290 device. It just seemed to slow more each week until the time between key presses and the screen updating was a few seconds.

Battery seems great. It is 1000mAh. I've been running almost 24 hours now with loaded up BBToday, Verichat, and bluetooth on, attempting to run the battery down so I can recharge it. I'm doing the tri-deep-cycle that Mark R. suggests. Currently the battery is at 50%. Pretty impressive! I have also had a fair amount of voice usage today.

Right now I am using the unit with a Motorola HS810 BT unit. Sound is great, even in loud environments. I cannot say that for the Jabra 250. Loud environments caused it to cut out badly. Also, the range with the Motorola headset seems better.

Overall, I love the 7100g unit. It's the best Blackberry yet, in my opinion.

Jeremy,

your feedback is greatly appreciated. also eye opening for me to see that you went from the 7290 --> the 7100g with nothing but praises.

it also seems very interesting that you feel the menu speeds are not only acceptable but pretty quick!

i really need to play with one of these once they roll out to the stores.

fyi all i am a treo 650 user with sprint.

regards,
dolo

jeremy are you using a bluetooth headset? I got my 7100g yesterday and am disapointed with the bluetooth volume. It reminds me when I ran HK 4.0 on my 7290 - horrible volume, so bad I had to roll back to 3.8.

Anyone with a 7100t have this problem? I just swapped my sim card back and forth and there is a "significant" difference between the volume on my 7290 vs. my 7100g. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am using a Motorola HS810 bluetooth headset with my 7100g. I have not had a problem with volume. I can even hear whilst I am in the datacenter. :D

I have allowed my AT&T Wireless contract to expire so I am month-to-month. I have been waiting for the 7100 and now am going to sign a contract and buy it. It appears that people have had fewer problems using their blackberry as a laptop modem when under an AT&T contract than with Cingular where there seems to be some quirks. Can anyoneone advise which carrier I should try and contract with in combination with my 7100 purchase? Any help is appreciated.

It depends if you are domestic only or intl. ATT data/voice plan is better intl. Cingular is better domestic. ATT, you can choose your network manually when roaming. With ATT, no rollover.

Thanks for the feedback, LearBB. I am domestic only.

Does anybody else have any thoughts on using the 7100g as a laptop modem on the Cingular plan. I have read several extensive posts on the topic in general, many saying that ATT is less finicky than Cingular in allowing this function without having to pay the $80/month data access plan, but I haven't seen one that address this 7100g and a Cingular plan since the phone is so new.

Default 7100G

I just got my 7100g and really like it. I called ATT/Cingular from my cell via 611, and asked for "Equipment Upgrade", and got it today!

Default 7100g pulled??

They have pulled the phone from their web site and I just spoke with someone in sales who indicated that they had some 'software issues' and the unit will not be available until late March or Early April.....

Anyone have any information about this SNAFU? I guess its not all bad for me as my Nextel contract isn't up till the end of March anyways

** Looks like all of you that were able to snatch one up already are the real lucky ones
Com~on Cingular... get ur act together :P

UPDATE 02/24/05
----------------------------------------------------

As many may have read here's a news story that talks about why the 7100g does not appear on the Cingular web site anymore.
Personally I think this is a big mistake as this unit (I believe) was supposed to bridge the gap between between business and average consumer so that BlackBerry could break into the market further

Default 7100g not available for sell through Customer Service

I tried to buy the 7100g through AT&T Customer Service today (dialing 611 on my AT&T phone). The rep could not find where the phone was available for sell. I explained that it had been on there website and that some people had already purchased it, but even after extended research she could not figure out how to sell one to me.

Went to the Cingular store and the manager said that he believed it was only available to large business accounts at this point. I have no idea if he was just guessing. i am simply reporting what I was told.

You are correct. It was on their website Wed and is now done. Cingular has pulled it. Does not affect me, I have a Nextel 7520 and Treo 650, but there must have been some significant issues to release and then pull something. Will be curious as to those of you who got one if any problems show up.

The interesting thing is that you can still purchase it from eaccess.com and cdw.com

Haven't seen any problems on my 2 7100Gs yet. I've had then for about 8 days now. Bluetooth works great, no freeze-ups, hard resets or anything. Strange.

There has been mention on the internet that T-Mobile has exclusive rights to the 7100 for a certain period of time. I wonder if Cingular had to pull it off their website becuause of an issue related to this.

I would think if there was a problem with the device they would notify some of their agents who are still selling it.

Who knows.

Except it is found on the RIM web site - http://www.blackberry.com/blackberry7100/models.shtml and on this Cingular page - http://www.cingular.com/blackberry7100g

And I believe the T-Mobile exclusive was for three months, which would have ended on January 1st or thereabouts.
