Maybe a stupid question, but because ATT has been blocking it I have never used it, and before going to the trouble of installing it:

Does it speak the directions?

If so are the talking directions free?

TIA

I don't believe there are audible prompts with Blackberry Maps. The main reason why I personally wanted to get it to work was because Poynt is integrated with Blackberry Maps and for more than half of the functionality Poynt provides, it needs Blackberry Maps. They do intend on having it work with other GPS apps (i.e. Google Maps) but in the meantime, I'll test out Poynt using BB Maps.

It's annoying to switch themes (due to all of the icon reshuffling) but something I'm willing to deal with that to overcome AT&T's silly attempts at forcing a revenue stream. At least AT&T isn't as bad as Verizon in this regard.

i have already brought down Google Maps, Version: 2.3.2 (#2375) Web Platform: Blackberry-9000_v4_6, and it works ok for me

are there any important reasons to go to trouble to add the BlackBerry Maps?

I have also tried to download blackberry maps from blackberry.com but it tell me that my phone(att) is not supported.

You have to make sure to check the box to add BlackBerry Maps from Desktop Manager when installing the OS. If you have already installed the latest OS you can click "Add / Remove" to have the ability to add the BlackBerry Maps module.

I got it to work as well following the concise steps above. Too bad the theme sucks. Just more incentive to find a new one. Many thanks.

Glad it helped. I never claimed artistic genius on the theme I created it to mimic the AT&T theme for my phone and figured I would share it for those that either liked the AT&T look or were too lazy, erm... busy to make their own

I checked the box when I went through the upgrade process and I can see it under option>advanced options>applications, but I can't find the icon. I tried using "show all" under the different folders and I was unable to unearth it. I didn't download the replacement theme but I tried the other vendor themes that came with the upgrade.

I have not tried with other vendor themes so YMMV with that... I would try the a completely third party theme like the one I provided or other one and see if it makes any difference...

I tried your theme and it was there, guess I should have followed directions the first time.
Thanks.

I followed the directions and it didn't work, until I did a full shut down and restart then it worked just fine. Thanks for the great info and shame on AT&T for blocking the application.

Thanks!

Hmmmm, I just installed the latest posted software (TIM ITALY) then loaded BB maps and there it was. No magic needed, nothing else touched, stock ATT theme.

I hadn't even seen this thread before I did any of this, but I managed to get BB Maps to show with the stock Precision Silver theme on .167.

I was tooling around with the unlocked vendor themes and decided I didn't like any of them, so I decided to restore the device. I noticed that the non-AT&T themes were still in there upon restore, so I placed the original BlackBerry.alx file back in the correct directory to replace the edited one. Then went to Device Manager to load the core apps manually, and noticed that the BB Maps check box was unchecked. I checked it, and when the device booted up only the AT&T themes were there, and when I changed back to Precision Silver, BB Maps was present. I haven't messed around with it too much, but it looks like it's working fine.

Default Help

Sorry guys but I'm a complete noob at this. I downloaded the new software but it didn't give me the option of putting Blackberry maps on my 9000 in the Desktop Manager. What did I do wrong?

In Desktop Manager, click on Application Loader, then click start under Add/Remove Applications. Once the list is loaded up, scroll down. You should see BlackBerry Maps listed. Check the box, click Next, then Finish.
