Hi all

Well i was thinking of returning to Orange but some of your cringe worthy tales are making me have second thoughts.

I really wouldn't put to much faith in the Executive Office either as the reason i left Orange after being with the since launch was down to them constantly lying to me. About not being allowed to upgrade the firmware on a SE910 even though there was a how to Orange leaflet in the box. Long story short only directly informing the Legal department i was going to start legal proceedings in 14 days resolved my issue and i left Orange. Now I'm not sure i should return?

Is there anything that Orange remove or disable on the Bold that would be on a Sim Free version?

Marc

Thanks for checking - it should be in the box, either at the back of the Orange manual for it on a specific page/pages dedicated to safety or RF, or contained in a separate safety notice. Also, sometimes Orange print in on the white side label (with all the bar codes) on the outside of the box, as they hope people won't look there!

Upgraded a business contract to a Bold yesterday free of charge (high user so they chopped my monthly tariff fee to £30 from £70 too as I threatened to leave) and it arrived today - extremely happy!

Nice one Orange!

OK I have all my documentation here with me now, what exactly is it that you want to find out?

I'm grateful but no need now - blackberry published the Bold's SAR rating on their website now, and I also found the FCC reports - the highest US frequency SAR at head (which seems to be for 3G rather than GSM) is 1.51. 0.84 on European (or non-US) frequencies. Thank you anyway though.

No problem. Is 0.84 reasonable compared to other phones? You seem to know a lot on the subject

It's moderately high but not particularly high for blackberries - the UK maximum is 2.0 (US is 1.6). Alot of modern phones hover around the 0.50-1.0 mark. I think it's the way it shoots up for US frequencies that is worse - 1.51 when the US safety margin is 1.6.

Took me an age to figure out how to read those damn reports given that most review sites (like CNET) and carriers (like O2) can't be arsed to actually to do their research and publish the correct info for consumers...dull dull dull...

Yeah that is pretty crazy - good to know though that it's not as bad as it could be given that I seem to spend my whole day with it either next to my head or in my pocket!

Cheers

Hi all,

Well i went for it today as i decided Orange are offering by far the best deals especially as so far they are the only ones with the Bold released anyway.

Took a new contract on Dolphin 35 with a £5 web discount so is just @£30pm and BB talk @£2.50pm and just £49.99 for the Bold. Just got to wait for it to arrive on Tuesday now.

Marc
