Thumbs up Fix Surreal Theme "Reset Error 523" With OS 4.5 Installed

Please Login to Remove!

After installing the surreal theme people using 4.5 beta on some BB device have been getting "reset error 523". Fixing this reset error is a piece of cake, all you had to do is connect your device to the computer, get to the cmd prompt where you have javaloader saved and type, javaloader -u erase -f net_rim_theme_surreal_320x240_b.cod
This will remove the theme and restart your device, no need to re-install os or erase the device.

I can write a little bat file to help if you are stuck.

By the way, you can use a similar approach if you get this error after installing some new apps/themes. Just erase them using javaloader.

It's actually net_rim_theme_surreal_320x240_422_b.cod.

Hate to disagree with a mod, but the one installed on my device was net_rim_theme_surreal_320x240_b.cod but users should try the mod's recommendation and the file I had installed on mine.

Also, you can simply connect the BB to the Desktop Manager while the BB hourglass is spinning and open Application Loader. Then just uncheck the Surreal theme in the list of applications on the device. Desktop manager/Application Loader will still connect to the BB during boot with an app error 523.

I thought this was a fix so you can have the surreal theme on 4.5! Bummer!

Anyone know if this theme will be re-written so it can function on OS 4.5.XX?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8320)

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm sure glad I have the TMobile official 4.2 installed. This theme is awesome. Even the calculator got an upgrade!

First off, I've never used javaloader before. FYI - I have Vista. I'm at the screen where it asks which javaloader command to you want to use. When I choose (6) Command Line Usage, it takes me to Notepad with all these letters and stuff in it.

So, where exactly do you type in javaloader -u erase -f net_rim_theme_surreal_320x240_b.cod? Are there any spaces in this command?

Thumbs up Leave out the 422

I tried this way first, because this is the way the theme is listed in BB Desktop Manager, but in the end this way didn't work ("invalid handle" or something).

The way that finally worked was leaving the 422 out of the name. It did work like a charm.

I'm going to pay closer attention to which themes work with which OS from now on.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks alot, I used the Desktop Manager version of the fix and it saved me alot of work. I could not get it to work right off and figured it was becasue I have a password on my device. I was using Desktop Manager 4.5 on that PC and it seemed to be able to tell that was my live theme and would re-check it when I un-checked it. Everything else I could uncheck. I then did it from another PC that had an older version of DM (4.3) and it allowed me to remove the theme and rebooted.

Hopefully that helps anyone running DM 4.5 or 4.6 if they have this problem.

good question. This is main reason I am not upgrading my OS... to 4.5.

I really love this theme.

I installed 4.5 and just tried using the SURREAL theme and guess what, ok, so I have the APP ERROR 523. I just want to make sure I have this right to fix this, all I have to do is connect my 8800 to the Desktop Manager while the hourglass is spinning, then remove/uncheck the SURREAL app and voila? I'm using Vista - is this still possible without having to use Javaloader? (i have never used Javaloader or know what it is, nothing to do with drinking coffee I know). Thanks all!

same problems as posters above. Just loaded rogers 4.5 on my tmob 8320. Stuck in the 523.

DM won't let me uncheck the surreal theme in the add/remove apps. What is javaloader? is it an existing folder on my comp? Do I have to go download it from somewhere?

Any help is appreciated!
