I have a Blackberry Bold that I want to wipe and reload. Previously loaded with BES.

Currently, the red light flashes 4 times when I plug it in.

Tried JL_Cmder to wipe the device and gives the following:

RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2007 Research In Motion Limited
Connecting to device...debug: COM error during
Open: (0x80004004)
Error: unable to open port


Apploader (loader /nojvm) gives:

A connection to the device could not be established. Please ensure that the device is properly connected to the cradle or USB cable, and that the cradle or USB cable is connected securely to your computer. Also ensure that the device has completed any startup operations. Then run the Application Loader Wizard again.

I want to give the Bold to my son since he jumped into the pool with his phone.

It sounds like your device ROM is corrupt. Use BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife) to wipe your device, use the button marked Wipe Device, not Factory Reset.

Instal an official Bold OS from 9000 Bold - Downloads - BlackBerry Forums, delete the Vendor.xml file from C:Program files/common files/research in motion/apploader before loading the new OS.

Make sure that the BDM (BlackBerry Desktop Manager BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop Software) is installed before installing the OS to your BB.

After installing the OS to your PC, connect your BB to your PC, make sure that the BDM is NOT running and navigate to C:program files/common files/research in motion/apploader and double click loader.exe and follow the on screen instructions.

After this, your 9000 should be ready for your son.

OK, downloaded BBSAK v1.9.1.

Ran bbsak.exe. After entering my password for the bold, I get "No Device Detected, Push OK to continue."

BBSAK cannot connect to the device.

In Windows Device Manager, I see "BlackBerry Smartphone listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers so it is being detected by the OS (Windows XP).

Any other ideas?

Try a different cable, pull the battery out and then connect to pc and run bbsak, or buy your son a 9900 when it comes out. We're runnin out of options here, but I wont give up a patient on my table till the corpse starts to rot.

OK, tried all options. Even reached out inside RIM (I live in Waterloo) to some of my contacts where the patient was taken inside their offices for troubeshooting. No luck. Seems this 9000 is done!

I'm a newb on BB so...bare with me, please!
Does the "wipe device" thing remove the anoying pics of the carrier?
I have a bold9000 formerly attached to TIM (italy) and now want to install the OS for my carrier (PT-TMN)... Already tried the bbsk and the jl_cmander and nothing... and still get that conect to business server (or whatever) at the "email config" and no other option!

Any ideas??

You want to remove the branding from your phone (the service pic when you start up the phone?)

If you look for that, you'll find the software used to do so is pirated software and therefore illegal. You'll also find no support for that software on this forum.

You really don't need to unbrand the phone, all your functionality will be available to you with an unlocked device, as long as the service books, operating system and firmware functionality are present.
