I have tried all the Yahoo Go!'s over time, starting back with the 1.0 S60 (Symbian/Nokias) versions and up through the 2.0 betas on BlackBerry -- I was never impressed with this app, it was always dog slow and never of much use on any phone, really. But last night I decided to install the latest release 2.0 for kicks just to check out the progress.

I am pleasantly surprised at the progress and will keep it installed.

The 2.0 release (2.0.38-23 on a Pearl 8100, OS 4.2.0.73) is actually quite usable and fast, the lag from previous versions is gone. It does take ~11 to ~13 seconds to start up which isn't too cool, but once it's launched and running the UI is quite snappy now - a definite improvement from past releases, even the beta 2.0's. I am no longer mentally saying to myself "man is this thing a dog" now.

One thing that makes this app worth the time -- the Flickr interface. This has got to be the best mobile interface to a web service I've seen yet, if you're a heavy Flickr user (like myself) you should really check this bad boy out. Your mobile Flickr experience will be a very nice one, and free to boot! (I'm a Flickr 'Pro' - paid - user if that matters)

So if you're like me and have dismissed Yahoo Go! out of hand based on past experience of it being crappy, you might take 15 minutes and try the latest release - you might be turned around like I've been.

Did you just miss everything I just said? It is not 'SLOW as molasses' on my 8100 anymore, they've fixed whatever was bogging it down.

Agree it is better than it was. But the start up is still a drag. I don't want to keep it running, so if I need to look something up I will use Beyond411 first every time. On the positive, I do like the map quality, and it updates fast when scrolling. Wish the gps feature worked with pucks.

It is still slow as molasses on my 8703e, nothing changed. I agree it is a very professional looking application but I have found many things faster that do just as good. I am not knocking you for liking it, still just to slow for me.

its not bad if you have some time to kill - it is nice to have yahoo mail folders on the device though

The 8703e uses a 200MHz ARM9 CPU, whereas the 8700/8100 use the Intel Xscale 312MHz CPU -- the 8703e has many, many reports on the 'net for being really slow compared to it's GSM counterparts (8700g/8700g). It does not surprise me you still see lag when using Yahoo Go! on that device.

Er... None I can think of.

I actually made the switch from being a paid yahoo mail user over to gmail recently. Moved my calendar over too. IMO the google services are much better. I don't see why you'd need this unless you use yahoo for a lot of different things.

its a great app, ill have to see if their is a new update but I use the Maps all the time, they have replaced my google maps.

I also like having my flickr account loaded in there. If i had a camera built in it would be nice and easy to upload i would think. Overall I think with alittle better speed this would be a great app.

Honestly I'm using it for the fantastic Flickr applet component and that's it -- if Yahoo would break that out into it's own software, the rest of Go! could go bye bye.

If you're an avid Flickr user, it's worth the effort to install. Browsing new uploads by your contacts is smooth as butter, for instance.

Can you remove modules in Yahoo Go? i.e. remove news module.. Has anyone heard any rumors on the release date for the 8830?
