Default New BB devices - WSJ report

Please Login to Remove!

According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, Research In Motion is currently testing a number of new devices, including at least one phone which has both a touch screen and a slide-out keyboard. The Journal's sources said of the device that it is similar to the iPhone, and supports swiping from screen to screen, pinch-to-zoom features, and a landscape software QWERTY keyboard. It will also have customizable home screens, which users can populate with the applications of their choosing. The phone also has a universal search feature, which will let users search for content or information on the device, the web, and even social networking sites. It will include the latest browser from RIM, which will be based on Apple's WebKit. The Journal's sources say that the browser is much faster than the current BlackBerry browser, and will support multiple open pages at a time. The phone will have 4GB of on-board storage and a five megapixel camera. The device in question runs BlackBerry 6, RIM's newest operating system that it plans to launch at some point later this year.

You can read the article at the link provided. That link gives another link to the WSJ article but really no additional info. I certainly would not hold my breath waiting for it even though it does sound nice.

But I have to admit, even that ithingy is starting to sound good right now. I think I can hold off on the urge to buy a new phone for a while since my Tour is only 3-4 months old.

It is GSM AFAIK, so most likely it will land there.

The WSJ is a little behind the times on this one. Crackberry and Engadget has been all over this thing since last May, with rumors of the slider since maybe last March. The 9800's specs are known, pics and videos of it running OS 6 have been seen, and the new name is likely going to be "Torch" instead of "Bold" - although that's not a definite yet.

Check out the most recent pics from June 24th - running with the AT&T start-up screen at:

Oh, and isn't there a group on this forum already for the 9800?

That forum was only created on the 24th. I wasn't even aware it was there until you mentioned it.
