Just a quick nit to pick here...the bandwidth needed for most VoIP calls is actually quite low. EDGE could easily provide enough *bandwidth* for these calls. *Latency*, on the other hand, is a big issue. The variable latency on the EDGE/GPRS networks would make VoIP unbearable. The VoIP codecs just can't deal with that.
