Default Poor battery life on 9650

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

So after over 3 years with my trusty 8830, I finally took the plunge and got a 9650. Unfortunately, I seem to have also took a huge plunge on battery life. I've now had the phone for 5 days, and each day I barely make it 15 hours before the battery is so low the radio turns off. I've tried turning off all the unnecessary radios (i.e. Bluetooth and wifi), but I haven't seen much of a difference. Is anyone seeing something similar? What kind of runtimes do you see with the 9650 today (and what radios are running)?

Thanks!!

I read you loud and clear. Hopefully battery life will improve. Are you using the same apps on both phones?

Really, 15 hrs of battery life before a recharge isn't enough?

Yeah well welcome to the future, same thing happened when I left my 8830 and went to the tour 9630. You get used to it like everybody else. Don't use bluetooth, turn down the brightness all the way. Most important talk less, lol. Enjoy

Default Battery life gets better

I noticed horrible battery life initially but it seemed to get better over a couple of days. Mine seems fine now.

my battery life is beyond HORRENDOUS!! The past two days, my phone has been dead to the point of red indicator, by like 2pm... after a full charge the night before and normal/light usage? yesterday the radio shut off too, yes. Fortunately my car charger showed up in the mail yesterday, so today I was able to charge... but it is ridiculous! And I cannot believe someone would just say get used to it... no, I will complain and get an extra battery.

Profile says 8830, if you are getting 2 days from the new Bold 9650, do you use it at all? I've had mine for two days and the battery time is a lot shorter than my Tour 9630.
Looking forward to more comments and experiences.

I have one that I use when I golf, because I use GolfGPS from GollLogix.com.
Standard battery won't make it through 18 holes.

Well after waiting a week to see if the battery life would get any better (it didn't), I went to my local VZW store, and managed to get a new battery out of them. I'm VERY happy to report my 9650 is now making it through the day without going into the red. Apparently I had a bum battery, and perhaps there is a bad lot out there. Anyone not making it through the day with moderate (but not ridiculous) usage should look into getting a battery replacement (and by replacement I mean off the shelf packaged battery, not one out of another 9650). I should note, I have the wifi radio off for the most part, GPS for location only as needed, and bluetooth on a good amount.

Hope the info helps!

well im sure you know that if you hold down your menu button that all of your open apps will show up on the screen. maybe you have some stuff running that you didnt know was running? also you could get a BB holster so that it stops running apps when its in the holster. i use one for my tour and it easily adds a few hours to my battery life. the 8830 had excellent battery life. i would not expect you to have the same battery life in a newer blackberry because of the screen size different and extra features.

You would think RIM would have created a stronger STANDARD battery due to the addition of Wi-Fi, better screen, etc. I can't see how they stuck with the standard 3.7V Li-ion 1400 mAh battery (D-X1). Obviously a larger battery should have been installed (something over 2000 mAh for sure)! I believe there's an extended battery but not too sure. If there is, I'm wondering if it would require a different back or wider door to accommodate a larger battery?

Seidio offers a 1700 mAh standard size (expensive). All other extended batteries that I have found, need an extended door.
I've checked eBay and have done searches, not impressed with what I can find so far.

Problem with extended doors is that the unit will no longer fit into third party cases like Otterbox or Body Glove for example. It's not easy in any direction it seems!

Leaving WiFi and Bluetooth on takes a toll on battery life. Also apps like Twitter constantly idling in the background is also a power killer. Likewise, frequently auto-updating weather apps will suck the juice.

My 8330 was a work horse, yet my 9650's battery is dead my 2pm, I have disabled WIFI, Bluetooth and closed all apps. . (no change). At this point - Sprint has replaced my 9650 2 times in the past 30days. The poor battery life appears to be related that my 9650 gets stuck in 1x mode when my 8330 never did. I also noticed that if I make a call when in 1x mode I get a VZ automated message that my cell phone can not be authenticated and im a sprint user. Any thoughts ??

Not any help, but this really does sound weird. My battery does last
all day and I do use it a lot. Twitter for BlackBerry and UberTwitter
running in the background, plus use the Weather Channel app and
some web surfing, along with text and e-mail. Good Luck!

Can't say I've had issues with the battery life, of course I flicker between my Wi-Fi and 3G antennas. So for areas I have no signal I turn of my 3G antenna and I am still connected.

9630 bad battery life, 9650 bad battery life par for the course. Its just normal for these phones. It sucks kinda, but having a spare battery does help. I don't run a lot of apps and I don't even use it a lot and I still blast through batteries. I'm is a marginal area though, I think a lot of it is because it may be searching for a signal a lot.
