I started the free 1 month trial of telenav and kablammy!!! Google Maps, MS Live Search and berrymaps has no issue accessing the gps.

If I cancel the telenav will all my great FREE mapping programs forget how to talk to the GPS radio?

Hmm, hard to say. Give it a shot and see. It might have just needed to establish the initial connection with their LBS server. Haven't heard of that one yet but who knows...

They don't forget, they know how, Alltel just won't let 'em.

Well I'll give it a shot,,,,,,, hmmmmm,,,,,, should prolly do some research before canceling telenav,,,,,,,,,,,, or maybe I should a least check it out for awhile,,,,,, at least until the trial runs out.

I'll come back when the trial runs out and say whether or not alltel re-blocks the free mapping apps.

All the gathered info will surely be invalid when Verizon begins slapping thier name on all Alltels stuff

So I love the GPS feature and after riding with my buddy who has a Magellan dedicated GPS, the turn by turn voice and redirecting is something I can see myself wanting. That being said, TeleNav would be the ideal situation for me? I guess my better question is what are some good recommended GPS software for my 8310 that i can purchase that is just a one-time fee instead of a subscription?

Have you looked in the GPS forum? GPS isn't unique to the 83xx series and there's a ton of info on various GPS apps already in that forum.

Again, I'd recommend Telenav. I don't know of any one-time charge (you have to download maps from their servers on-the-fly in most cases and they have to maintain their servers, etc etc) apps offhand. Some do offer annual pricing.
