Haven't had the chance to try it myself. My phone has a couple of common profiles set up (linksys, tsunami) in the event of an open connection, and once in awhile I'll be sitting at a stop light in my truck and notice my phone is on UMA because I've locked into someone's open WAP ;)

I have most of my clients' wireless networks set up, but they're all WPA2.

I've dropped an occasional call, depending on the quality of the internet connection -- more noticeable where the connection is only DSL up to a T1. At home or work it's never been an issue (fat pipes at both locations.)

So far so good. I do notice pages take a long time to load at the job but I think it has to do with the DNS lookup since it sits on requesting page for a long time. Other than that I haven't noticed when it changes.

Is TMO phasing out new UMA-enabled devices and/or phasing out UMA, at least as it applies to making phone calls?

All current T-Mobile BlackBerrys have UMA enabled. While I can't answer that definitely as I am not a senior executive there, I haven't heard anything that says they are.

That would be a terrible business decision.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

I would probably switch to ATT if they did that. A lot of infrastructure went into UMA. I doubt they're planning on phasing it out anytime soon.

MyFaves is another story, though. I have heard that is being phased out.

Even if you switched, and ATT offered UMA, it wouldn't work.

Only a TMobile branded device will work on UMA on TMobile. An ATT device won't work on TMobile with UMA. If ATT did have UMA, the TMobile branded device wouldn't work on UMA with ATT.

That's a mouthful but I hope you get it.

No. There are other carriers that have it...Rogers in Canada, some in Europe, etc.

UMA has been a life saver for me. Staying in touch has never been easier while traveling internationally. I used to come up with convoluted ways to stay in touch with home without breaking the bank, but now, I just find a wifi signal, or create my own, and voila.

I had high hopes for ATT microcells, but they screwed the pooch by requiring the user to be in an ATT coverage area. I probably would have switched to ATT had it not had this requirement, just due to the better covereage in the US, butnow there isn't a chance. Take that, Deathstar!!!
