Default R shortcut for the Alarm Clock (a compromise)

Please Login to Remove!

I loved the R shortcut implementation on my old 8820. (I thought it was the best one yet because it would save the alarm time setting when I hit the ESC key without asking for a save confirmation.)

Anyway, I was thoroughly dismayed when the R didn't work on the Bold and now on my 8900. But I discovered by accident the other day that there is a mini-shortcut within the clock application to set the alarm time.

So, just open the Clock application. Then hit the R key. It will immediately let you set the alarm clock time. Try it!

I tried searching but couldn't find this tip posted anywhere, so I thought I'd share. The insult of the R shortcut's disappearance is a little more tolerable now.

cheers,
John

Yup! Good find! I use the alarm alot to and normally am adjusting it +/- an hour in the AM.

It also brings up the alarm if you press the trackball in when it is just at the clock screen.

Another clock tip: If you set the Bedside clock Option to Disable LED (yes) and you Enter Bedside mode then you'll never see the LED lights again when you use the phone. I did that and exited the clock app after I got up and took it out of the dock (forgetting it was in bedside) and wondered why my LED never blinked for messages, BT, charging. I though it was broken. I actually hate the BT blue light blinking at night in my car so that's a way to can it.

Would it be possible to fix this on the next firmware upgrade? It would be nice to have that quick shortcut.

I missed it also when switching to the Javelin. I need to keep the clock icon there just so I can switch to it now. In the past I would hide it and just use the short cut key.

soooo glad I read this thread. I wasn't to happy about having to set alarms through the calander...grr.

Through the clock is pretty simple enough.
