Default Water damaged pearl

Please Login to Remove!

Just a quick question. My 8100 pearl was dropped into water. I dried it as best I could and took it to a Rogers service centre. They were unable to salvage the phone and said that it would need a new motherboard ($300.) My question is this: Should I just buy a new phone or should I just buy a parts phone off ebay. Does anyone think that the water would have damaged anything else and that there is no way of really telling what else needs to be fixed until we get the new motherboard in? Any help would be appreciated.

I just checked rogers.com and for the pearl with no contract it is $449. I have to buy the phone with no contract as I still have 3 years left on my contract.

Don't pay the 300.00 you can pick them up far cheaper than that now.

Wow... How do you have 3 years left?... They usually give you the highest discount by just agreeing to 2 years... Im surprised Rogers wants that much... Tmo has the 8100 listed for $299.99 before any discounts.

On ebay, a new phone is $269 - $300 and parts phones are ~50 bucks. If I buy a parts phone, eventually will the solder points or other parts eventually corrode or something?

I still have 3 years left b/c last month I renewed my contract for the $10/month plan to save some $. Essentially, I was previously paying $25/month for the exact same thing. They then put me on that plan and added 2 years to the 1 year I still had left.

Would you consider a "gently used" one? If so check the the Buy and Sell thread here.

While we here in the US get 2 year contracts, a lot of the Canadian companies require 3 year contracts for the lowest prices.
