Default GPS on my Verizon Curve 8330

Do I have to subscribe to VZNavigator in order for any mapping apps to work on my Verizon Blackberry? When I downloaded a mapping app it said my phone does not support GPS. I called Verizon and they told me I would have to use and pay for VZNavigator to have GPS function. True or False?

Did you try a search? At one time Verizon unlocked GPS using *228 updater. Not sure if that is still valid now or not. I know the more recent Verizon BBs can use BB Maps, but not Google for some reason.

Do you have BBMaps visible and usable?

I have verizon and google maps, and my gps works (not to great but works). It not dead on the money but is very close to my location. Normaly its off by a few streets. But the gps is perfect using BBmaps. Not sure why its off on one app and good on another.

Google is probably using cell tower data and not GPS to find your location. Does it give you the location within something like 1700 to 2500 meters? If so that is the cell data and not GPS. GPS will give you 10 meters or less.

As I said previously, I believe VZW has it blocked except for BBMaps.

Wirelessly posted (Lets Go Canes!)

Yes for that device, BB Maps is unlocked and that's it. There is much more GPS flexibility with the Storm & Tour.
