Default Jabra BT250 vs. BT250v

Please Login to Remove!

I've recently tried a few different BT headsets and I've decided that the Jabra BT250 (or BT250v) is the right one for me. The Moto HS850 was too floppy and the volume was too low...the Plantronics M3000 sounded great, but was painful to wear....and the Logitech Mobile Freedom was also pretty painful to wear. Others love some of these, but they ARE NOT made for MY ears.

So...after trying the BT250, I love it. However, I know there's also a BT250v that vibrates. I really don't care much about the vibrate feature...but I really like the all black design. In addition, I was wondering if there are any other improvements in the BT250v over the BT250. They had to change something inside in order to squeeze a vibrate motor in there! I can't find the FFC ID for the BT250v, so I can't see for myself. With ANY change to the design, there's aways a chance that the RF performance could get better...or it could get worse. Anyone know of *ANY* other differences between the BT250 and the BT250v other than vibrate, the black shell, and maybe a slight decrease in talk time? Anyone test both?

BTW...has anyone else noticed that a large number of the headsets discussed here (Motorola, Plantronics, even the Jabra) are all actually designed by GN Netcom? I didn't know this until I started researching them from their FCC reports. Several of the headsets you know and love are actually filed under GN Netcom and have "GN Netcom" on the printed circuit board. Almost all of them use CSR's less than perfect (read cheap and dirty) BT silicon.

Well, due to the overwhelming response (NOT!)...I'll answer my own question for all the folks that are interested.

I ordered the BT250v and received it on yesterday.

The first thing I noticed was that the vibrate feature causes the buttons to rattle. For those of you with the BT250, you probably know that the buttons (on/off and volume) are a little loose. This is not a problem at all. HOWEVER, they're still loose on the BT250v and when the vibrate kicks in, the buttons rattle...resulting in an irritating sound.

The second thing I noticed was that the sound quality wasn't quite as good on the BT250v. It seemed louder than the BT250v, but so loud (even at mid volume) that the caller's voice seemed to reach the beyond the internal speaker's ability. Decreasing the volume helped, but eventually the volume gets so low that I found made myself going up and down trying to find a happy middle ground between volume and sound quality. With the BT250 (non-V), I always set the volume to the highest or nearly the highest level and it sounds great.

No noticable difference in range or reception between the two models.

I'm returnind the BT250v and staying with the BT250...which remains the most comfortable headset I've tried. Add to this the BT250's decend sound quality, adequate volume on both ends, and reasonable range....I don't think I'll find a better headset on the market.

Oh, one other thing the wife insisted that I mention. The BT250 and BT250v are the only two Bluetooth headsets that I tried that didn't make me look like I just left a StarTrek convention. No fears of getting strange looks from folks in airports or Starbucks when you're using these models.

First of all, thanks for the info... good to know as I'm looking to upgrade from my BT200 to a BT250 and was looking at the BT250v as well.

Second, as someone who has a BT200 which looks just like the other two, you do still get strange looks in airports as you appear to be talking to yourself. And if you are done talking but don't bother taking the headset off, everyone behind you sees this funny thing hanging on the back of your ear with a bright blue blinking light.

Thanks for the review. I love my BT250. It seems like the perfect companion for the 7290.

Funny you mention it. I just got the BT250 and my wife's first comment was that I looked like "those funny people on Star Trek". She meant the Borg. I have obviously been assimilated.

I love my BT250, it is the 3rd of these style Jabra headsets (I had the original both for bluetooth phones and with the adaptor for non-bluetooth phones) - the main reason I upgraded was for the increased battery life.

I tried motorola, plantronics and the new Jabra with the LCD that displays caller-id information and nothing comes close to the comfort and usability of the Jabra BT250.

Great I can't wait to get mine!!! I have juggled between the Motorola H850 and BT250 but I think I have come to my conclusion the 250 is the way to go. Also reading that RIM states that the H850 should not be used with the 7520. Don't know why though, anybody ever hear of that?

You should look into the Bt500 as well... it's smaller and lighter than the old 250
