Default T-Mobile UK 8100 call failure message

Please Login to Remove!

Hi There - I wonder if someone could please help me with an issue that I am having with a secondhand 8100 that was given to me by a friend (who moved to an iPhone!!)

He says that he previously had the phone on a pay monthly contract with T-Mobile and I know that this was the case as he has had the phone for about 18 months.

I just want to use the phone for texting and a few calls, so no Blackberry data plan required.

When I place my T-Mobile pay as you go SIM card into the phone, all appears to be ok (good signal strength and the T-Mobile UK message is displayed)), however when I try to make a call, I get authorization failure. My friend says that this may be due to the phone previously being locked to his T-Mobile pay monthly account?

I thus unlocked the phone from T-Mobile and placed an O2 SIM card into it. Again everything appears ok, in that I get the O2 - UK message and 5 signal strength bars shown on the top right hand corner.

However, when I try to make a call or send a text, I get a call failure message

I suppose that this must be something to do with the phone somehow still being tied up to T-Mobile (uven though I have successfulyl unlocked it).

Could anyone please shed any light on this situation for me. I am confident that the phone was not stolen, but I am confused as to why it will not make calls on other networks.

My friend also assures me that the phone was working perfectly when he had he T-Mobile SIM card in it (which he has no mis-placed!!)

Thanks for any advise / assistance.

Andrew

Who did you get the unlock codes from? And how do you know it actually has been unlocked?

Hi There - thanks for the reply.

I got the unlock code from dr.unlock (I have used them before without any problems).

I know that the phone is now unlocked as when I type MEPD in options/SIM it shows disabled for network (and all other options). Also I no-longer get an invalid SIM card message when I put a non T-Mobile SIM card cin the phone, which I wa getting before I enetered the unlock code.

I am thinking that somehow the phone is still tied into a specific T-Mobile SIM card / account either by it's IMEI number or maybe it's Blackberry PIN number? Is this possible, does anyone know, so that the tie in holds across operators?

Thanks Again.

No, any plans etc are tied to the SIM card.
If the BB PIN was tied to an account, it would only affect your ability to get data.

OK, thanks for that.

What about the phone being on a Blacklist for stolen phones - although I am sure that this is not the case as I remember my friend getting the phone brand new about 18 months ago.

It just seems funny that it is stopping calls on all networks - yet he assures me that the phone worked fine with his old SIM card (which he has now lost - but the contract was up anyway).

Do T-Mobile do anything special with their Blackberry phones to not allow them to be used on any other network, even if unlocked?

Thanks Again.

Andrew.

Do you have a plan that is attatched to the sim card you are using?

Hi Again - yes I have a standard voice plan - no BB plan as I just want to use the phone for personal use (I have a curve for business use).

I have turned off data services on the phone, just in case this was causing a problem.

Thanks Again

You said PAYG sim card?
Does it have credit on it?

Yes, the PAYG SIM has credit on it
I have also tried my pay monthly O2 SIM in the phone and I get exactly the same results i.e. the call failed message.

Thus it must be either some settting(s) on the phone, or a general block across all networks?

Thanks Again

ok, not sure where about it is on a 8100
but
options (wrench icon) - security - firewall
make sure its no checked to "block outgoing calls"
also check options - security - general, and see if there are any IT policies on the device.

Thanks for the continuing assistance.

The firewall is disabled and there is no I.T. policy shown to be on thew phone

I think that I am just going to give him the phone back as I am stumped!!

Thanks

Andrew
