Default Texting on the 8700

Please Login to Remove!

I'm considering getting the 8700 now that T-Mobile has it. I played around with someone's at work (Cingular) and it was pretty sweet. I'm still not thrilled about the lack of memory expansion, but the amount of storage is now at an acceptable level, though barely, so I might be able to move beyond this issue. My question is about texting. I do a lot of it with the wife throughout the day and it's a critical feature for me. I recall that some Blackberries simply didn't do texting, but it may have been only a few models. I want to be able to send the wife simple text messages directly to her phone from whatever I'm using, plus be able to recieve them. Any issues with texting and the 8700?

Texting is fine. Both SMS and MMS.

if you are a heavy "texter", you might want to consider adding a text messaging bundle to your plan.

below is the link to the text messaging plans that tmobile offers:

Or you can both get blackberries and pin each other.

If you pay enough for texting..over the course of a year you will have paid for the extra BB with all the money you save each month by PIN messaging each other. Plus...syncing schedules is an added bonus. :o)

If you get the data plan you can send an email as a text message, as long as the other person replys to you text it will come back as an email, circumventing any text messaging charges on you end. This work for the light bit of texting I do.

When you say PIN messaging, are you referring to Blackberry messenger? Or are you referring to "send PIN" option in the message folder? That's free?

Use [email address] I know if I send one to an Alltel number I have to use [email address] but teleflip should work for most carriers. I have used this and it doesn't bill as an outgoing text, it is included in the data plan.
I haven't tried it personally but I think that people with regular phones can send text messages to an email address, at least someone told me they could. So you might be able to get around incoming text messaging if they send it to your blackberry email address, good luck trying to make that happen though.
