Question Water damage - battery inserted post-rice too early?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I dropped my BB in the sink this afternoon. I took the battery out straight away, dried it all with a towel and left in a box of rice. However, I became impatient and put the battery back in - it came up with a blank white screen, then loaded, but the keys weren't working and neither was the scroller, though I could see the screen and it had connected to networks. I then shook it, thinking that some grains of rice were stuck (they were) and put the battery back in. The same screen appeared. Then I plugged it into the charger for a little while - no improvement.

I then went online and realised my mistake, and so used a hair dryer on a low heat for about twenty minutes. This was fairly successful - water behind the screen dried out - and I've put it in a box of rice again. My question is this: will the insertion of the battery quite early on ruin the blackberry? I really hope that someone can give me advice on this, as well as letting me know how long I should leave it in the rice for.

Thanks for all your help!

Once it is wet, turning it on is usually fatal.
I'd leave in the bag of rice for 3-4 DAYS and see what happens. But it is likely dead.

Standard answer: yes you've screwed it by putting the battery in too early.

Our advice: at least a week in rice

You may get lucky, but at this point, all you can do is wait and hope.

I wish you Good Luck with it but like the guys said above, and from what I've read and seen on this forum over the last year, the chances are not good (1 in 100)

Plan for the worst, and if it does make it, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Hey!

My blackberry has started working - it was in the rice for three days, and it's now been fully charged and is back to full health. Thanks for all your advice and help!
